Deputy Superintendent (Instruction & Schools) Position Summary The Deputy Superintendent (Instruction & Schools) serves as the district's chief academic officer and is responsible for the planning, coordination, supervision, and evaluation of all instructional programs and school performance systems across PreK�12. The Deputy Superintendent provides executive leadership to ensure that all schools operate within clearly defined School Performance Networks (K�5 and 6�12) and that principals are directly supervised, supported, and held accountable for student achievement, attendance, and school culture. The position ensures alignment across curriculum, assessment, multilingual learner services, and instructional systems and is directly accountable for measurable improvements in student outcomes across the district. Additional Qualifications:
Principal Certification Supervisor Certification Qualifications Master's Degree from an accredited college or university (Doctorate preferred)
Minimum:
Seven (7) years of successful teaching experience Five (5) years of successful leadership experience at the school and/or district level Demonstrated expertise in: Instructional leadership and school improvement Supervision and evaluation of principals and administrators Data-driven decision-making and performance management Experience leading systemwide initiatives in urban or high-need districts preferred Core Responsibilities Systemwide Instructional Leadership and Coherence Serve as the central leader of all instructional systems, ensuring alignment across: Curriculum and instruction Assessment systems Multilingual learner programming Intervention and support structures Eliminate fragmentation and ensure consistent implementation across all schools. Supervision of School Performance Networks Directly supervise Executive Directors of School Performance responsible for: K�5 School Network 6�12 School Network Ensure principals are: Supported through coaching and development Evaluated in accordance with NJPEPL and district frameworks Held accountable for measurable outcomes Instructional Strategy and Academic Improvement Lead the design and execution of a districtwide instructional strategy aligned to: New Jersey Student Learning Standards (NJSLS) District strategic plan and Portrait of a Graduate Oversee all content areas, including: Literacy and mathematics STEM and humanities Bilingual education and multilingual learner supports Career and technical education pathways Performance Management and Accountability Design and lead a districtwide performance management system, including: School Stat cycles Data review protocols Intervention planning Monitor and analyze: Student achievement and growth Attendance and chronic absenteeism School climate indicators Hold leaders accountable for continuous improvement. Assessment and Data-Driven Instruction Oversee the implementation of a coherent assessment strategy aligned to: Formative assessments Interim/benchmark systems State assessments Ensure instructional decisions at all levels are driven by data. Multilingual Learner and Bilingual Education Oversight Ensure effective implementation of bilingual and ESL programs aligned to instructional priorities Promote equitable access to rigorous instruction for multilingual learners Leadership Development and Supervision Supervise and evaluate assigned leaders, including Executive Directors and Directors. Build leadership capacity in: Instructional leadership Observation and feedback Data-driven decision-making Ensure alignment to NJPEPL and Danielson frameworks. Budget and Resource Alignment Collaborate with the School Business Administrator and leadership team to ensure: Strategic allocation of resources Alignment of funding to instructional priorities Effective use of federal, state, and local funds Cross-Departmental Alignment Ensure alignment between Instruction, Talent, Data, and Student Services to support school performance. Serve as a key integrator across central office functions. Stakeholder Engagement and Communication Communicate instructional priorities, progress, and outcomes to: Superintendent Advisory Board School leaders and stakeholders Support transparency and shared accountability. Compliance with Law and Policy Ensure all instructional programs operate in compliance with: Federal statutes New Jersey statutes and administrative code District policies and Other Duties Perform such other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or designee in accordance with law and regulation. Accountability Measures The Deputy Superintendent is directly accountable for: Increased student proficiency and growth in ELA and Mathematics Reduction of achievement gaps across student subgroups Improved attendance and reduced chronic absenteeism Effective implementation of curriculum and instructional systems Measurable improvement in school performance indicators Key Competencies Systems thinking and organizational leadership Deep instructional expertise across PreK�12 Data-driven decision-making Strategic planning and execution Change management and continuous improvement Strong communication and interpersonal skills Areas of Influence All schools and instructional programs across the district Principal leadership and school performance outcomes Districtwide instructional strategy and implementation

Possible exposure to cleaning agents, instructional materials, and equipment-related chemicals.

Non-Affiliated Administrator Minimum Starting Salary - $150,000 Maximum Starting Salary - $200,000 Residency Requirement Under New Jersey's "New Jersey First Act" (N.J.S.A. 52:14-7), all employees of New Jersey public school districts must maintain bona fide New Jersey residency as a condition of employment. Candidates must already reside in New Jersey or establish residency within the required timeframe after hire. Current employees who were hired on or before September 1, 2011areexemptfrom this requirement and may continue to reside outside the state. In limited circumstances, applicants may request a residency waiver through the state's Employee Residency Review Committee if they can demonstrate critical need or hardship; approval is not guaranteed.
