Encourage the development of UCNJ students with extracurricular and co-curricular student engagement programs via student activities, civic engagement, leadership development, student conferences, and cultural events. Oversee student engagement and involvement, assist in coordinating and implementing activities in relation to student events, , programs, activities, and recognition and awards programs. The Specialist serves as a key operational lead for event management, including calendar coordination, logistics, and cross-campus planning, and must be well versed in college processes related to student services, event operations, and administrative procedures. Supports the development of programs and events that enhance student experience and promote connection, inclusion, and persistence to graduation. The Specialist tracks and assesses event participation, engagement data, and program outcomes to inform planning, improve effectiveness, and support a welcoming campus environment. Characteristics, Duties, and Responsibilities Supervises and leads the Office of College Life Student Worker Program including scheduling, training, and supporting student worker involvement in event planning, setup, and execution. Assist in onboarding and transitioning student staff into event planning roles, building capacity for program support and implementation. Manage and maintain a comprehensive department event calendar to ensure coordination across campuses, programs, and initiatives. Coordinate event logistics including space reservations, setup, staffing, equipment needs, and day-of execution to ensure successful program delivery. Assists with the annual Student Life budget; assist with the backend management of registered Club/ Organizations budgets. Support departmental financial operations related to events, including tracking expenditure, processing purchase orders (POs), and submitting vouchers in a timely manner. Provide guidance and support to club leaders in planning and implementing inclusive events and programs and contribute to a thriving and engaging student life. Support the planning and implementation of Inclusion and Belonging Committee programming and assist in tracking participation and engagement data. Collaborate with campus partners to coordinate events that support student engagement, sense of belonging, and overall student success in support of college goals. Demonstrated ability to envision, plan and follow through with trending student development theories, ideas, activities, training and programming. Maintain organized records of event planning documents, vendor information, and operational procedures to support continuity and efficiency. Plans, implements and evaluates co-curricular student activities which provide a welcoming campus environment, and which supports student recruitment, retention and the successful achievement of academic and career goals. Oversees and assists in developing activities, events and programs that satisfy the needs of a diverse student population which are designed for the social, cultural and instructional development of students. Maintain statistical reports, surveys and other records to assess accomplishments, appropriate student learning outcomes, and departmental needs. Compile and analyze data related to student participation and program evaluation; develop organizational work processes which facilitate attainment of established program goals and objectives. Prepare administrative reports for College Life events, programs and accomplishments. Provide assistance with major college-wide events such as Commencement and New Student Orientation. Plan and implement fall and spring "Welcome Weeks" events on all three campuses. Plan and implement the College Life Awards at the end of each spring semester. Serve as backend administrator on Owl's Space platform. Create training materials for students and staff end-users. Assist in preparing effective promotional and informational publications and materials. Consults with the appropriate department to resolve problems or policy concerns evolving from within the sections of the program or unit supervised. Knowledge and experience in designing programs and services that are based in current research on student learning and student development. Oversee and assist in developing activities, events and programs designed for the social, cultural and instructional development of students. Development goals and objectives; collects appropriate data; and completes assessments of results assigned; recommends modifications to existing services based on outcomes. Ability to supervise and coordinate the operation of various activities. Provides data on area usage and materials needed for the unit budget. Performs related responsibilities as assigned by supervisor or designee. Education Requirements Master's Degree in in Student Personnel Services, or related field. Experience Two (2) years' experience in college large-scale event planning, mentor or supervisor of student staff or equivalent preferred. Competencies and Skills Required • Interpersonal, organization and communication skills required. Proficiency with MS office products including Excel and experience managing student engagement software platforms. Analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent customer service, oral and written communication skills, including ability to communicate effectively with a diverse external community and a diverse campus community.
Knowledge and Abilities:
Must possess strong interpersonal skills to interact tactfully and courteously with students, the public, faculty, and other staff members. Must be a "quick study" in order to quickly grasp knowledge of policies and procedures relating to every aspect of student services that a prospective or current student may utilize. Ability to take required initiative to solve problems. Ability to collaborate with others. Ability to prioritize multiple projects. Ability to supervise and coordinate the operation of various activities. Ability to effectively manage change. Ability to develop, write, plan and implement divisional goals and objectives. Commitment to student service and a diverse population. Physical Demands and Work Environment This position's duties are normally performed in a typical interior/residence work environment, based on the activity scheduled. Some physical effort required; however, the employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
