Building Principal Position Summary The Assistant Principal supports the Building Principal in all school operations and assumes leadership responsibilities in the Principal's absence. Under the supervision of the Principal, the Assistant Principal oversees instructional programs, staff and student activities, facility operations, and community engagement initiatives. This role promotes student achievement, equity, cultural responsiveness, and a positive school climate through effective leadership and collaboration. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Leadership and Administration Assist the Principal in providing leadership, supervision, and evaluation of instructional programs and school operations.
Support implementation of competencies including:
Ethical Leadership Visionary Leadership Instructional Leadership Personal and Professional Leadership Multicultural Leadership Community Relations Leadership Political Leadership Legal and Fiscal Leadership Interpret and implement Board policies and administrative regulations. Assist in establishing building-level priorities aligned with District goals, community expectations, and student/staff needs. Lead and support staff, students, and community stakeholders in achieving school improvement goals. Work cooperatively with District administrators regarding school progress, concerns, and operational matters. Perform additional duties as assigned by the Building Principal and/or Superintendent. Instructional Leadership Facilitate professional development focused on instructional best practices and improved student achievement. Analyze school-level data and collaborate with staff to develop and implement School Improvement Plans. Assist in the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of curriculum and instructional programs. Demonstrate knowledge of culturally responsive instructional practices and diverse teaching strategies. Lead initiatives designed to improve student learning outcomes and academic performance. Utilize technology effectively to support instruction and manage building operations. Staff Supervision and Development Assist in the recruitment, screening, hiring, orientation, assignment, and retention of diverse and culturally competent staff. Supervise and evaluate assigned personnel. Support staff professional growth through coaching, feedback, and development opportunities. Foster effective communication, collaboration, and conflict resolution among staff members. Promote a positive, inclusive, and equitable work environment focused on continuous improvement. School Climate and Student Support Help establish and maintain a positive school climate that promotes: Equal opportunities for all students Positive behavior and attitudes Student attendance, health, safety, and well-being Develop and maintain culturally responsive operating procedures and routines. Build positive relationships with students, staff, families, and community members regardless of race, gender, disability, sexual orientation, or religion. Support extracurricular programs and student activities. Operations and Resource Management Supervise maintenance and operation of school buildings, grounds, and property. Assist in budget development, resource allocation, reporting, and records management. Demonstrate effective planning, scheduling, and decision-making skills. Manage responsibilities independently while maintaining flexibility under changing conditions. Supervisory Responsibilities Supervises building staff as directed by the Principal and/or Superintendent. Qualifications Valid or eligible New Mexico PED School Administrative License. Minimum of five (5) years of successful licensed teaching experience. Ability to pass employment verification and background checks. Physical Requirements The position may require: Sitting and standing for extended periods Lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds Climbing stairs Reaching, squatting, and kneeling Full mobility of hands and fingers Moving light furniture Reasonable accommodations may be provided in accordance with the ADA.
