Associate Superintendent of Secondary Schools
Position Description:
The Associate Superintendent of Secondary Schools serves as a key member of the District Leadership Team and provides strategic leadership, supervision, and support to school principals to ensure high levels of student achievement, effective school operations, and continuous improvement across all schools. This position is responsible for developing and evaluating school leaders, overseeing school improvement efforts, monitoring academic and organizational performance, and ensuring the effective implementation of curriculum, instruction, assessment, and student support systems. The Associate Superintendent collaborates closely with District departments, families, community partners, and other stakeholders to align resources and services in support of District goals. Through data-driven decision-making, leadership development, and a differentiated system of support and accountability, the Associate Superintendent promotes excellence and continuous growth while ensuring compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, policies, and district expectations.
Minimum Qualifications:
Hold or be eligible for a New Mexico Public Education Department (NMPED) Level III-B Administrative License; Master's Degree in Education from an accredited college or university required; Doctorate Degree in Education or related field preferred; Minimum of five (5) years of successful experience as a highly effective school principal; district-level leadership experience preferred; Demonstrated record of significantly improving student achievement, graduation rates, attendance, school climate, and overall school performance; Proven ability to lead school improvement efforts through the effective use of summative, interim, benchmark, formative, attendance, behavior, and social-emotional data; Demonstrated ability to develop, support, supervise, and evaluate school leaders while creating the conditions necessary for high-performing Professional Learning Communities; Demonstrated expertise in curriculum, instruction, assessment, professional development, program evaluation, school improvement, and personnel supervision; Skilled in organizational leadership, change management, strategic planning, and continuous improvement processes; Proven record of building strong partnerships with students, families, staff, community organizations, and other stakeholders; Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with district leadership and personnel across all departments and organizational levels; Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, regulations, policies, and procedures applicable to public education and school administration; Excellent communication, presentation, facilitation, and interpersonal skills; Strong organizational, project management, conflict resolution, and team-building skills; Demonstrated ability to effectively utilize technology to support leadership, communication, data analysis, and organizational effectiveness; and Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable. Essential Job Responsibilities Provide leadership and oversight for all secondary schools to ensure high levels of student achievement, effective school operations, and continuous improvement; Collaborate closely with the Associate Superintendent of Elementary Schools to ensure vertical alignment of curriculum, instruction, assessment practices, and student support systems throughout the District; Supervise, support, coach, and evaluate school principals, holding school leaders accountable for improving student outcomes and achieving District performance goals; Establish and maintain a differentiated system of support and accountability for schools, providing intensive assistance to schools requiring improvement while sustaining and expanding successful practices in high-performing schools; Lead the development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of school improvement plans and District school initiatives; Assist principals and leadership teams in conducting effective data analysis and implementing evidence-based continuous improvement strategies to improve student achievement and school performance; Conduct frequent school visits and classroom observations to monitor the implementation and effectiveness of curriculum, instruction, assessment, and student support practices; Facilitate the sharing and replication of best practices across schools through professional development, collaboration, coaching, and leadership networking; Oversee the development, implementation, monitoring, and completion of school NMDASH plans and other state accountability requirements; Monitor and support school efforts related to attendance, behavior, student engagement, graduation rates, college and career readiness, and overall school climate; Collaborate with district departments, including Curriculum and Instruction, Special Education, Human Resources, Operations, Technology, Athletics, Fine Arts, and Student Services, to ensure coordinated support for schools; Develop and maintain a leadership pipeline by identifying, mentoring, and supporting aspiring administrators and future district leaders; Coordinate and support the recruitment, selection, onboarding, and retention of principals and other school leaders; Assist the Superintendent and Chief of Schools in communicating district priorities, school performance, and improvement initiatives to the Board of Education, families, community partners, and other stakeholders; Stay current on research, best practices, legislation, and emerging trends related to school leadership, educational best practices, and organizational improvement; Maintain professional relationships and work cooperatively with employees, families, community members, and other professionals; Comply with the New Mexico Administrative Code's Ethical Responsibility of the Education Profession and uphold all applicable laws, regulations, Board policies, administrative procedures, and district expectations; and Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent and Chief of Schools consistent with the responsibilities of the position or the needs of the District.
