facilities include a 1.5 million gallon per day tricking filter wastewater treatment plant, 3 wastewater pumping stations, and approximately 20 miles of sanitary sewers. Responsibilities The Superintendent is responsible for overseeing the daily operation and maintenance of the district, supervising operations staff, coordinating with vendors and contractors, and ensuring compliance with NYS DEC State Pollution Discharge Effluent System (SPDES) and other regulatory requirements.

Typical Duties Include:

overseeing the implementation of district policy and procedures, and recommending improvements to the same; assuring adherence to applicable laws, codes, and ordinances and coordinating with regulators; planning and directing all activities involved in collection and treatment of wastewater; preparing reports and recommendations on district activities and future plans and needs; supervising the maintenance of pertinent records and reporting; preparing and submitting annual budget; reviewing and recommending capital expenditures; coordinating with local Village authorities regarding the operation of the district; preparing for and attending all meetings with the Board of Commissioners, and conferring with Board as necessary; ensuring efficient operation of the district; ensuring that district equipment and vehicles are maintained for safety and operational readiness, and are operated responsibly in the interest of public safety; preparing and / or reviewing bid specifications for purchase of district equipment and capital contracts.

Qualifications Candidate must have:

good written and oral communication skills; knowledge of codes, rules, and regulations applicable to wastewater facilities; ability to plan, organize and direct the work of subordinate district personnel; and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the Board of Commissioners, associates, regulators, subordinates and the general public. Minimum Qualifications Ten years of satisfactory experience in water and/or wastewater treatment and/or collection or related field, including five years supervising subordinate staff. NYS DEC Grade 2A or higher Wastewater Operator Certification Nassau County Civil Service Title or list position for Superintendent of Sanitary District or Sewage Plant Operator is preferred. Selected candidate must be willing and able to pass Nassau County Civil Service test for Superintendent of Sanitary District. Salary to be negotiated commensurate with experience.
