May, 6, 2026 Athletic Director / Director of Physical Education & Health (#1747) Position Summary The Athletic Director / Director of Physical Education & Health provides leadership and administrative oversight for the interscholastic athletic program, physical education and health curriculum, and related facilities and programs at Penfield High School. The position is responsible for planning, organizing, supervising, and evaluating athletics, physical education, health education, aquatic programming, and facility use to ensure alignment with the district's educational mission, New York State Learning Standards, NYSPHSAA/Section V regulations, and best practices in student wellness, safety, equity, and community engagement. Primary Responsibilities Athletics Program Leadership & Administration Direct and supervise all interscholastic athletic programs, including modified, junior varsity, and varsity levels. Develop and implement policies and procedures consistent with district goals and regulations. Ensure compliance with NYSPHSAA, Section V, and Penfield CSD policies. Coordinate athletic schedules, leagues, tournaments, and postseason participation. Serve as district liaison with Section V, opposing schools, officials' organizations, and athletic associations. Physical Education & Health Education Oversight Provide instructional leadership for the Physical Education and Health Education departments. Ensure curriculum alignment with New York State Learning Standards. Oversee curriculum development, implementation, assessment, and program improvement. Collaborate with administrators, teachers, counselors, nurses, and support staff to promote student wellness and lifelong fitness. Support equitable, developmentally appropriate, and inclusive instructional practices. Personnel Supervision & Teacher Evaluation Recruit, recommend, assign, supervise, and evaluate coaches. Recruit, supervise, and evaluate physical education and health education teachers. Conduct formal and informal teacher observations in accordance with APPR and district evaluation procedures. Plan and facilitate professional development opportunities for coaching and PE/Health staff. Ensure staff meet all NYSED certification and professional development requirements. Address performance concerns, conduct issues, and discipline in a timely and professional manner. Student Oversight, Safety & Wellness Promote academic eligibility, citizenship, sportsmanship, and positive behavior. Oversee student-athlete eligibility, discipline, and conduct. Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, including concussion management, emergency action plans, CPR/AED requirements, and risk management protocols. Support the physical, social, and emotional well-being of all students through athletics and instruction. Facilities, Pool Operations & Event Management Oversee scheduling, supervision, and safe operation of all athletic and instructional facilities. Pool and aquatic facility operations, including staffing, safety protocols, lifeguard certification requirements, scheduling, and program coordination. Supervise home contests, meets, and events, including staffing, supervision, security, transportation, and emergency preparedness. Coordinate facility inspections and collaborate with district operations and maintenance staff to ensure safe, well-maintained environments. Outside User Groups & Community Facility Use Organize, schedule, and oversee outside user groups utilizing district athletic and aquatic facilities. Coordinate permits, contracts, supervision, and compliance with district policies for external organizations and community events. Serve as liaison between the district and outside organizations to ensure appropriate facility use, safety, and scheduling efficiency. Monitor and enforce facility usage guidelines and expectations. Budget, Resources & Financial Management Develop and manage budgets for athletics, physical education, and health. Oversee purchasing, inventory, and maintenance of equipment and uniforms. Monitor expenditures, including transportation, officials' fees, equipment, and facility costs. Ensure fiscal responsibility and adherence to district purchasing and accounting procedures. Communication, Media & Community Relations Serve as primary contact for families regarding athletic, physical education, and health. Coordinate and oversee department social media platforms to promote programs, events, achievements, and positive messaging consistent with district communication guidelines. Communicate schedules, expectations, policies, and updates to students, families, and the community. Represent Penfield High School and the district professionally at meetings, events, and public functions. Qualifications Required New York State certification in Physical Education. New York State School District Administrator (SDA) or School Building Leader (SBL) certification, or eligibility to obtain certification. Demonstrated knowledge of interscholastic athletics, PE/Health instruction, facility management, and school operations. Experience coaching and/or administering secondary school athletic and physical education programs. Strong organizational, leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. Preferred Prior experience as an Athletic Director, Assistant Athletic Director, or Director of Physical Education. Familiarity with Section V Athletics. Experience supervising aquatics programs and pool operations. Experience with athletic scheduling platforms and social media communication.
