August 1, 2026 Our ideal candidate will have the following essential core characteristics: The Assistant Principal will serve as a member of the North High School leadership team under the direction of the Principal to foster and facilitate a culturally responsive and inclusive community that empowers all students to develop their unique potential and thrive as learners, citizens, and leaders in a diverse global community. Applicants must demonstrate an asset-based perspective, a track record of successful teaching, an orientation towards teamwork, and hold high expectations of students and colleagues. Our ideal candidate will have the following qualifications: Minimum of five years of successful experience in education, including teaching, supervision, and/or administration. Familiarity and experience with trauma-informed teaching, discipline practices, and multi-tiered systems of support Experience with students of various abilities across a wide range of special education programs Knowledge of IEPs, 504 Plans, Behavior Intervention Plans, and experience with assisting students and faculty to ensure fidelity and progress monitoring Graduate study beyond a master's degree with emphasis on high school (9-12) curriculum, supervision, and/or administration. A valid New York State SAS, SBL, or SDA certification by Board appointment date. Demonstrated ability to:
provide leadership and work effectively with staff members, colleagues, parents, and others in the educational community; use creative problem-solving and decision-making skills to provide a positive learning environment resulting in continuous improvement for students and staff; and, speak and write clearly and effectively. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate. The successful candidate can expect the following responsibilities : Assists the principal in the supervision and evaluation of classroom instruction. Assists in implementing instructional strategies, including supporting the needs of diverse learners, delivery methods, assessment, and staff development techniques for improvement of instruction. Assists in the orientation of new staff members to the teaching environment at the high school, especially as it relates to the area of students, personnel policy, procedures, and general building. Serves as a liaison between building administration and assigned academic departments. Supervises and evaluates professional and support staff assigned to the building. Coordinate Pupil Personnel Staff (PPS) including scheduling, evaluation, and substitute coverage. Assists in screening, interviewing, and recommending candidates for professional and support staff positions. Maintains the discipline and morale of students by carrying out the provisions of the Code of Conduct and implementing restorative practices as appropriate. Attends 504 and CSE meetings for students as appropriate. Provides visibility and supervision of students during transitions, the cafeteria, and other appropriate areas. Collaborates with appropriate stakeholders to provide support for students through SST and MTSS. Coordinates student activities and events, e.g., school assemblies, guest speakers, etc. Oversees building maintenance and scheduling (obsolete equipment removal, scheduling for the Mother's Room, Staff Development logistics, locker assignments, etc.), as well as permits for internal and external groups. Coordinates and supervises the administration of examinations, state assessments, related data reporting, and state reports. Serves as one of the DASA Coordinators, and is responsible for SSEC Reporting, DASA Reporting, Distraction-Free Reporting, etc. Assembly programs - planning and participation Supervise events and activities outside normal school hours. Coordinate family engagement activities, e.g., Open House, New Parent Program, etc. Assumes all responsibilities of the Principal in the Principal's absence. Assumes responsibility for other tasks as assigned by the Principal. REPORTS TO
