ESC Full-time Intervention Specialist (Portage County) Capstone Academy is an Educational Service Center (ESC) of Northeast Ohio program located within a residential facility. The educational program provides services for medically-fragile students with profound multiple disabilities in grades K-12 (ages 3-22). Capstone Academy is seeking a qualified candidate for a full-time Intervention Specialist position for the 2026-2027 school year. This position is for a self-contained, specialized classroom serving students with profound multiple disabilities and complex medical conditions. Candidates must possess a valid Intervention Specialist (K-12) license through the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce.
The main duties include:
Develop effective student educational experiences that engage and stimulate student learning, including lesson plans based on the Ohio Learning Standards – Extended (OLS-E). Teach lessons based on the OLS-E standards. Vary instructional techniques to address diverse student learning styles. Provide Specially Designed Instruction (SDI) as per each student's IEP. Support students in the development of communication, adaptive functioning, cognitive, and motor skills. Prepare and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEP). Facilitate IEP meetings. Maintain complete and accurate records and documentation. Evaluate the academic needs of students. Use formal and informal assessment strategies to monitor student learning and progress. Write Progress Reports every 9-weeks based on student IEP data. Complete job-related trainings (e.g., blood borne pathogens, safety drills). These will be provided by Capstone Academy and the residential facility.
Qualifications:
Secure and maintain appropriate Ohio Department of Education and Workforce license. Clear FBI and BCI Background checks Maintain a record free of criminal violations that would prohibit public school employment. Participate (and pass where applicable) in all required trainings, including but not limited to: First Aid, CPR, Crisis Intervention, Blood Borne Pathogens, and others deemed appropriate for the position. Comply with drug-free workplace rules and board policies. Embody high ethical standards and integrity. Accept responsibility for decisions and conduct. Adhere to Educational Service Center (ESC) Governing Board policies/administrative guidelines/staff handbook, policies of assigned worksite, and to the Licensure Code of Professional Conduct for Ohio Educators. Promote the proper use, care, and security of Educational Service Center (ESC) property. Report misconduct, vandalism, equipment malfunctions and other concerns. Exhibit consistent, impartial and resourceful critical-thinking skills. Proficient in office protocols, data entry, spelling, proofreading, and the correct use of grammar. Demonstrate dependability/flexibility and reacts productively to interruptions/emerging priorities. Give thorough attention to detail and effective customer service. Maintain an acceptable attendance record. Report suspected child abuse and/or neglect to supervisor and/or civil authorities as required by law. Cross train with other staff, participates in meetings, and attend professional development in-services. Maintain confidentiality of information relating to students. Perform other specific job-related duties as required.
Working Conditions:

Risk of exposure to air-borne particulates, chemical irritants, combustible materials, electrical hazards, equipment vibrations, noises, and odors. Exposure to wet or slippery surfaces. Balancing, bending, crouching, kneeling, reaching and standing. Lifting, carrying, and moving work-related supplies and/or equipment. Must have ability to occasionally move up to 50 lbs.
