Job Description
Director of Special Education Position Purpose
Under the general supervision of the Superintendent. The Director will be responsible for program implementation and evaluation of special education programs. This will include planning, compliance, monitoring, testing, personnel and budgeting of all special education programs. The Director will be the liaison in all matters concerning special education. Essential Functions Provide leadership in the development and evaluation of the district's special education services.
Coordinate and supervise all special education staff in the district along with providing training and testing for staff.
Responsible for hiring and evaluating all special education personnel.
Responsible for managing the special education budget.
Prepare all necessary state reports related to the district's special education services, along with all state required reports.
Ensure the district's special education files and procedures are in compliance with all state and federal laws.
Responsible for evaluation of students in the district for special education programs.
Attend IEP and other special education meetings. Additional Duties
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Superintendent.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Strong organization, communication, and interpersonal skills. Extensive knowledge of special education state and federal laws. Ability to work collaboratively with administrative staff, teachers, and parents. Qualifications Profile Special Education Certification Master's degree required Experience Successful special education teaching experience, in secondary and elementary level. Experience in guidance, psychology, health, and/or social work preferred. Previous special education director experience required.FLSA Status:
