Discovery Charter School (K-8) Mission Alignment The Director of Academics (6-8) ensures that middle-grade scholars experience rigorous, relevant learning that prepares them for high school and beyond. Aligned with Discovery's mission, this leader empowers students through inquiry, academic excellence, and culturally responsive instruction. Position Overview This instructional leader drives curriculum execution, educator development, and data-informed decision-making for grades 6-8. The role includes supervising staff, leading professional development, overseeing academic programming, and partnering with families to ensure an engaging and equitable learning environment.
Key Responsibilities Instructional Leadership:
Align curriculum with standards and school mission; coach teachers; embed expeditionary and inquiry-based learning.
Educator Development:
Supervise, evaluate, and support middle school staff; lead professional development and team goal setting.
Curriculum & Assessment:
Oversee rigorous academic programming; lead assessment strategy; track and report achievement metrics.
Family & Community Engagement:
Communicate academic goals; host showcases; represent school in academic partnerships.
Operational Coordination:
Support scheduling, resource planning, and compliance; coordinate interventions and enrichment programs. Key Competencies Middle school content and pedagogy expertise Leadership and strategic planning Equity-driven coaching and collaboration Data fluency and performance analysis Strong communication across diverse audiences Qualifications Master's degree in Education or Educational Leadership (required) PA Administrative Certification or eligible (preferred) 5+ years of successful teaching in grades 6-8 2+ years in curriculum, coaching, or school leadership Experience with project-based or expeditionary learning (preferred) Performance Expectations 85%+ of students show measurable academic growth Middle school staff receive regular feedback and demonstrate instructional improvement Academic programming reflects rigor, equity, and relevance Strong family partnership and school reputation for middle-grade excellence
Additional Duties:
As assigned by the Principal or CEO to support Discovery's mission.
Pay:
$110,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year
