ELEMENTARY PRINCIPAL REPORTS TO
Assistant to the Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction PURPOSE OF POSITION
To plan, supervise, and administer appropriate public education programs for children with trained instructional staff, proper instructional materials/equipment, and a pleasant learning facility. QUALIFICATIONS 1.
At least five years of successful experience as a classroom teacher 2. At least three years of successful administrative experience. 3. A valid state certificate to practice as an elementary school principal. 4. Substantial knowledge and experience with Pennsylvania Academic Standards, Education reform models, CSRD, NCLB, Curriculum Development, Staff Development, School Improvement Plans, PSSA, and school-wide programs. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS A. REGULAR ACCOUNTABILITIES 1
. Evaluate professional instructional staff, substitute staff, and programs to ensure the appropriateness of education for all students. 2. Maintain the optimal levels of material and equipment inventories to support building-level instructional programs. 3. Administer building-level budgetary allotments to ensure the fiscal integrity of the programs. 4. Supervise and administer the maintenance and operation of the physical facilities to ensure a pleasant, safe, and comfortable working and learning environment for staff and students. 5. Implement District, state, and building policies and procedures relating to transportation, discipline, attendance, student records, testing, planning activities, and safety. 6. Supervise the development and implementation of IEPs for exceptional children in the least restrictive environment. 7. Perform such other tasks from time to time as assigned. B. PERIODIC ACCOUNTABILITIES 1.
Monitor the Collective Bargaining Agreement and serve as the first-level grievance respondee 2. Assist the superintendent in planning and implementing professional development programs for instructional staff. 3. Participate directly in screening, interviewing, selection, and/or reassignment of instructional staff to offer the highest level of educational programs for students. 4. Analyze fiscal needs and submit recommendations for budget developments. 5. Plan and direct components of a public relations program that communicates the types of educational programs and offerings to students. CRITICAL SKILLS/EXPERTISE 1.
Organization and planning skills. 2. Knowledge of past practices. 3. Skills in fostering good interpersonal relations among staff. 4. Instructional observation and evaluation skills. 5. Management and administration skills. 6. Knowledge of reporting student achievement from standardized testing, mandated state assessment and assessments embedded in curriculum. 7. Knowledge of infusing technology and curriculum NON ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS 1.
Participates in principals' meetings, negotiations meetings and such other meetings as are required and appropriate. 2. Conducts staff meetings to keep members informed of policy changes, new programs, and the like. 3. Cooperates with colleges and university officials regarding teacher training and preparation. 4. Attends special events held to recognize student achievement, and attends school-sponsored activities, functions, and athletic events. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
