JOB SUMMARY
The Coordinator is responsible for providing specialized technical assistance and professional learning to local education agencies, specifically targeting middle and high school student achievement. This role is central to ensuring students successfully navigate secondary education and transition into post-secondary opportunities through effective academic scheduling, policy compliance, and career-readiness initiatives.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Coordinator for Student Success will collaborate with local education agency staff to support student scheduling at the Middle and High School level to ensure students matriculate to graduation. Provide ongoing training and technical assistance to support principals in developing student schedules at the Middle and High school levels including evidence

  • based advisory systems as required by Policy 2510 leading to the development of a Personalized Educational Plan by the end of eighth grade.
Support schools to ensure the delivery of Standards for Students Success through school visits and various means of data collection to assist teams of teachers at the Middle and High School level in meeting the social and emotional needs of all students. Collaborate with local and state education agency staff to support student scheduling, identify appropriate course codes, and emphasize the career clusters and the various career opportunities available within each cluster. Work cooperatively with higher education institutions, military, Career Technical Education, and other training and post-secondary training programs to establish linkages that provide opportunities for students to continue their education and training at the post-secondary level. Provide professional learning and technical assistance in the areas of Graduation Requirements, Programs of Study, Advanced Placement, Advanced Careers, Dual Credit, Embedded Credit, High school transcripts via third party vendors (Parchment), Academic Scheduling, Co-requisite courses, International Baccalaureate, Early College, Grow Your Own, Promise Scholarship, and other secondary and post-secondary programs. Collaborate with the Office of Career Technical Education team to provide technical support in scheduling Career and Technical Education students as it relates to WVBE Policy 2520.13 WV College
  • and Career-Readiness Programs of Study/Standards for Career and Technical Education.
Organize, coordinate, implement professional learning activities and provide technical assistance to all academic sectors, in addition to various government and private agencies. Perform other assignments as deemed appropriate and necessary by the State Board of Education, Associate/Assistant Superintendent, and the State Superintendent of Schools.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Master's degree required. Valid West Virginia K-12 Administrative Certificate and/or Professional Student Support Certificate endorsed for School Counseling. Five or more years of employment in public schools as a school principal and/or school counselor, preference given to high school principals and/or counselors.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This position is classified as sedentary work, involving prolonged sitting (6-8 hours daily) at a desk or computer workstation. Occasional demands include standing or walking short distances within the office and lifting/carrying up to 10 pounds. This role requires close visual acuity for reading documents and computer screens, clear speaking/hearing for communication, and repetitive wrist/hand motions. The staff member is self-motivated and demonstrates the ability to manage multiple tasks/assignments to accomplish high-quality work to meet demanding deadlines with minimal supervision. The staff member demonstrates excellent oral and written communication skills, and excellent presentation skills using current technologies. The staff member demonstrates ability to work effectively with county personnel and other state/local officials. The staff member understands that travel throughout WV and out of state (including air travel) may be required on an occasional or frequent basis depending on the needs of the Department. The staff member understands this is a full-time, on-site position based in Charleston, WV. Remote work options are not available for this position. The staff member understands that work assignments may change or be added, as priorities emerge with the West Virginia Department of Education (WVDE).
EMPLOYMENT RELATIONSHIP
Department of Education staff are employed upon recommendation of the State Superintendent of Schools and are state employees. No representative or employee of the state is authorized to enter into any employment contract or other agreement. Department staff work under the direction of the State Superintendent of Schools for the general supervision of the free schools in the state and implementing the policies of the board and other necessary tasks as determined by the State Superintendent of Schools or his/her designee. Each employee is "at-will" and subject to termination by the State Superintendent of Schools at any time, with or without notice, cause or compensation. The employment relationship between the State Superintendent of Schools and the employee may be terminated by either party. Reasons for termination by the State Superintendent of Schools include, but are not limited to, immorality, incompetency, cruelty, insubordination, intemperance, willful neglect of duty, unsatisfactory performance, the conviction of a felony or a guilty plea or a plea of no contest to a felony charge, misuse of funds or property, violations of law or policies of the state board, lack of need, or a lack or loss of funding.
