To Be Determined Job Description Job Overview The IEP Specialist is responsible for the direction of all activities involving IEPs for students who are identified as needing special education services. Roles and Responsibilities The following information is intended to describe the overall nature and scope of the work being performed in relation to the position. This is not a comprehensive listing of all responsibilities or tasks; other work may be assigned when deemed appropriate: Works collaboratively with the Department of Technology staff to coordinate technical aspects of the IEP software and related issues; conducts data review and validation in conjunction with the Department of Technology Services Serves as the main liaison with the vendor support team for the IEP software; collaborates with the vendor in the configuration of the IEP software to meet program goals Collaborates with school-based administrators and special education administrators to develop and implement compliance and monitoring procedures for IEP management; reviews IEPs for completeness, accuracy, goals and objectives in accordance with Virginia Special Education regulations Provides professional development for IEPs and IEP software for special education staff, administrators, case managers, paraprofessionals, related service providers and general education staff Supports administrators and special education staff by providing timely, accurate responses to explain LCPS policies, best practices and guidelines Monitors case manager data input required for state reports, including the December 1 Child Count report and Virginia Department of Education Performance indicators Qualifications Below are the minimum qualifications for this job. Equivalent combinations of education and experience are also acceptable. Education Experience Five (5) years of successful teaching experience Licenses and Certifications Holds or is eligible for a Pupil Personnel Services License or Postgraduate Professional License with endorsements in one or more areas of Special Education; administrative endorsement and/or special education leadership certificate Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Excellent professional and personal characteristics and oral and written communication skills necessary for working effectively with school personnel, administrative staff, and community members Excellent skills in group facilitation processes, with emphasis on conflict analysis and resolution approaches to improve group communication Physical Requirements The following provides a brief description of physical requirements for this position: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly talking, expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. The employee must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly. The employee must possess normal cognitive abilities including the ability to learn, recall and apply certain practices and policies. Frequently sitting and/or remaining in a stationary position for long periods of time. Exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
