Job Description
Job Overview The Special Education Supervisor is responsible for the oversight and direction of activities related to compliance and program support involving the instructional programming for students with disabilities. The supervisor works with assigned school staff to ensure accountability and compliance with the implementation of state and federal regulations related to IDEA and local policies, procedures, and practices related to students with disabilities. Roles and Responsibilities The following information is intended to describe the overall nature and scope of the work being performed. This is not a comprehensive listing of all responsibilities or tasks; work may differ and other work may be assigned when deemed appropriate. Coordinates IEP process with program specialists and participates in IEP meetings in complex situations to provide leadership and support to staff and parents and facilitate conflict resolution. Monitors IEPs, behavior intervention plans and special education programs to ensure accountability and compliance. Assists school staff in the collection and analysis of data to ensure that students' IEPs are being implemented with fidelity. Meets regularly with school-based special education staff as a collaborative learning team to discuss concerns, problem-solving situations and provide guidance on student/program issues. Provides ongoing professional development for school-based administrators and staff related to state and federal regulations. Collaborates with lead special education staff, such as deans, department chairs, lead teachers and others responsible for program implementation, to ensure fidelity and program integrity. Monitors the implementation of PBIS, Restorative Practices, and other safe school practices to ensure positive discipline approaches are used consistently in schools; provides direction and alternative strategies to school-based administrators regarding the discipline of students with disabilities. Develops and monitors the implementation of school-based inclusive practices, such as master scheduling, collaborative learning teams, co-teaching and other effective practices to ensure implementation with fidelity. Qualifications Below are the minimum qualifications for this job. Equivalent combinations of education and experience are also acceptable. Education Master's Degree Experience Five (5) years of successful experience in progressively responsible positions and administrative experience and/or program supervision required Licenses and Certifications Holds or is eligible for a Pupil Personnel Services License or Postgraduate Professional License with endorsements in one or more areas of Special Education; endorsement in Administration and Supervision PreK-12 preferred or holds or is eligible for a license issued by the Board of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Five (5) years of successful experience in progressively responsible positions and administrative experience and/or program supervision required Physical Requirements The following provides a brief description of physical requirements for this job: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly talking, expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. The employee must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly. The employee must possess normal cognitive abilities including the ability to learn, recall and apply certain practices and policies. Frequently sitting and/or remaining in a stationary position for long periods of time. Exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Reports to :
