220 Days Per Fiscal Year, Plus the Emergency Call of the Superintendent Under the general supervision of the High School Principal, the person in this position will facilitate the development, articulation, implementation, and stewardship of a vision of learning that is shared and supported by the school community. They will promote the success of all students by advocating, nurturing, and sustaining a school culture and instructional program conducive to student learning and staff professional growth. The Assistant Principal ensures management of the organization, operations, and resources for a safe, efficient, and effective learning environment. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Assist the High School Principal with the following: Providing leadership to establish a school culture which guides and encourages the school's professional and support personnel in their educational work and their professional growth, so as to secure continuous improvement of instruction and promote healthy growth and adjustment of pupils. Creating a harmonious and productive learning community of students, teachers, and support staff. Acting under the policies established by the School Committee and as agent for all matters pertaining to the high school. Collaborating with families and community members, responding to diverse community interests and needs, and mobilizing community resources. Implementing the school curriculum; Organizing, administering, and coordinating phases and functions areas of instruction; including a comprehensive co-curricular program. Ensuring that the School Improvement Team (SIT) functions effectively to support continuous improvement and student achievement, while complying with applicable state law and district policy. Adhering to the recommendations of the NEASC visiting committee. Providing supervision of students, certified and non-certified personnel, and visitors. Coordinating the preparation of a master schedule and a program of studies. Submitting total school inventories, budgets, requisitions, and purchase orders as required. Overseeing school discipline. Submitting evaluation reports on school personnel with special attention to non-tenure certified personnel, including making recommendations to the superintendent as to tenure. Cooperating with all community groups in promoting education and the image of the school Submit reports for the school as required and others that may be requested from time to time by the Superintendent. Conducting administrative meetings that may be necessary for improving such practices and procedures which will achieve accuracy and efficiency in the operation of the total school program. Overseeing the selection of personnel and work assignments and making recommendations to the Superintendent. Working closely with the Superintendent and their designee at all times to keep them informed of all practices, policies, problems, curriculum experimentation and innovations that take place at the High School. Working closely with the Assistant Superintendent and Department Heads and/or Coordinators on all curricular matters, practices, and policies. Keeping abreast of changes and developments in the profession by attending professional meetings, reading professional journals and other publications, and discussing problems of mutual interest with others in the field. Any other related duty as assigned by the High School Principal and/or Superintendent. Desired Minimum Qualifications Education and Experience Must have a valid building administrator certificate issued by the Rhode Island Department of Education. Five years of successful teaching experience, high school preferred. Successful secondary school level administrative experience and experience in developing and implementing proficiency-based graduation requirements, preferred. Master's degree required. Citizenship, residency or work VISA in the United States required. Tools & Equipment Used The individual should be familiar with the operation of standard office equipment including, but not limited to, personal computers, and spreadsheet and word processing software.
