Principal Opening:
Blessed Sacrament School, a co-educational Pre-K - Grade 8 school at 240 Regent Ave. in Providence RI has an immediate opening for principal. The right candidate is a disciple of Jesus Christ who can be a dynamic, caring, empathetic, and faith-filled chief administrator. Additionally, he/she is capable of working collaboratively with the pastor and the Catholic School office as well as a talented faculty to continue to build upon the Diocesan mission of Catholic education. MCRS is an accredited school with approximately 200 students enrolled.
The Principal will have a passion for the mission of the Church to go and make disciples. In doing so, the Principal will support the Bishop, the Pastor, and the Superintendent's vision and direction for Catholic education in the Diocese of Providence.
General Description:
Directly responsible for the day to day operations of the spiritual, educational, and extra-curricular programs of the school. Works in collaboration with the school leadership team to oversee all institutional and operational programs of the school.
Job Responsibilities:
- Articulates (internally and externally) the school philosophy and mission; develops the life of the school as a Catholic community
- Exerts leadership in creating a culture of mutual respect among faculty and staff
- Holds final responsibility for the selection, assignment, evaluation and dismissal of all faculty, coaches and certain functional supervisors
- Promotes/encourages faculty and staff development; plans content for all professional development days
- Communicates regularly with staff, families, and stakeholders
- Supervises all Catholic Athletic League teams in accordance with appropriate guidelines and regulations
- Administers the federal grant programs
- In accordance with parish leadership, sets the annual operating budget for the school
- Serves as school representative in legal matters
- Completes all reports required of the school
- Leads and sets vision and standards for the academic programs of the school
- Chairs the Academic Council and maintains final authority for all academic policies
- Coordinates and publishes the student program of studies for all grades and in conjunction with the Diocesan Catholic Schools Office has final approval of any course/curriculum change
- Creates master schedule of classes
- Prepares official school calendar and report card calendar
- Supervises the grading system of the school
- Oversees all Student Information Systems and databases used in the school
- Manages school webpage and monitors faculty compliance/usage
- Assists in resolution of academic conflicts between teacher/student, student/teacher, parent/teacher, and other stakeholders
Student Life
- Maintains responsibility for the health and safety of all students
- Maintains accurate student records
- Oversees Admission Committee
- Assumes final responsibility for the selection and dismissal of all students
- Consults with parents of students making poor academic progress
- Assists the leadership team with disciplinary matters as needed
Community Relations
- Represents school in its dealing with other schools and agencies
- Actively assists leadership team with recruitment/outreach
- Assists leadership team with major gifts, grant-writing proposals, as needed
- Maintains an active presence at school events
Skills, Knowledge, Abilities
- Must be a practicing Catholic in good standing with a pastoral reference and be personally invested in the formation of Catholic youth and families.
- Commands a superior understanding of Catholic intellectual tradition, the magisterium of the Church, and the purposes of Catholic education.
- Demonstrated leadership ability
- Excellent communication skills
- Strong organizational skills
- Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand English fluently.
- Must pass a nationwide criminal record check
Education, Training, and/or Experience
- Must be an intentional Catholic disciple of Jesus Christ who is in good standing with the Church and be personally invested in the formation of Catholic youth
- The preferred candidate will have earned a graduate degree in education, school administration, theology or ministry
- Must have demonstrated experience in leadership positions, preferably in Catholic schools or organizations
