About The Greene School The Greene School (TGS) is a public charter high school located in West Greenwich, Rhode Island, serving approximately 200 students in grades 912. Our students come from the entire state of RI - including urban, rural and suburban areas. We are rooted in EL Education (Expeditionary Learning model) and grounded in a commitment to environmental education, student agency, and authentic learning experiences for students from diverse cultures and backgrounds. TGS has recently received state approval to expand to a 612 configuration, adding a middle school program that will deepen our continuum of learning and strengthen our community. This is an exciting moment in our school's history and an equally exciting time to step into school leadership. The Opportunity The Greene School is seeking a visionary and grounded School Principal to provide instructional and operational leadership for our school community. Reporting to the Head of School, the Principal will serve as the day-to-day instructional leader: building teacher capacity, nurturing a strong school culture, and ensuring that every student experiences rigorous, engaging, and meaningful learning.
This role is ideal for an educator who is deeply committed to progressive, expeditionary education; who understands the unique promise of charter schools to serve as laboratories of innovation; and who brings both warmth and high expectations to their leadership practice. Key Responsibilities Instructional Leadership Champion the EL Education model and support teachers in delivering high-quality Expeditionary Learning experiences Lead instructional coaching cycles in partnership with the school's instructional coach Use data, including student assessment results and feedback, to guide school improvement decisions Facilitate professional development that is practical, collaborative, differentiated and grounded in TGS's model Partner with members of the leadership team in a collaborative manner to meet the diverse needs of all students and all members of the teachers and support staff. School Culture & Community Build and sustain a positive, inclusive, and student-centered school culture Maintain strong relationships with students, families, and community partners Lead Restorative Practices and support staff in addressing student needs holistically Serve as a visible, accessible, and caring presence in the day-to-day life of the schoolOperations & Management Oversee daily school operations including scheduling, staffing, safety and compliance Supervise and evaluate instructional staff in alignment with Rhode Island educator evaluation frameworks Collaborate with the Head of School on strategic planning, including the school's 612 expansion Ensure fidelity to the school's charter and applicable state and federal regulations Who We're Looking For The ideal candidate leads with both head and heart. They are a skilled instructional leader who can develop teachers and build coherent systems and they are equally capable of showing up for a student in crisis, facilitating a community meeting, or developing/leading engaging professional development. They believe that adults thrive in the same conditions as students: clear expectations, genuine and reciprocal feedback, collaborative structures, and meaningful work.
