JOB DESCRIPTION

GENERAL SUMMARY
Under general supervision, assists the principal in the overall administration of the school to ensure the facility is an attractive, safe, pleasant, and productive place in which to work and learn. Provides leadership in instructional programming, student discipline, staff supervision, and school operations. Supports the implementation and monitoring of special education programs and services to ensure compliance with federal, state, and district policies. Reports to the school principal.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Informs the principal of conditions and needs of the school. Plans, develops, implements, and evaluates the educational program of the school on a continuous basis in accordance with students' needs and within the framework of established district policies. Assists school personnel in improving the instructional program and in fulfilling assigned duties. Exerts leadership in the management and discipline of students and supports the implementation of effective classroom management systems. Assists in recruiting and interviewing prospective teachers. Conducts classroom observations and evaluates teachers' contributions to instructional effectiveness and professional growth. Provides feedback to staff on instructional practices and classroom management. Provides for the placement and scheduling of students. Maintains accurate records of students receiving special education services and ensures student schedules appropriately reflect required services. Arranges and coordinates services for students identified as having special needs. Serves as the Local Education Agency (LEA) representative at Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings when appropriate. Monitors the implementation of student IEPs to ensure accommodations, modifications, and services are appropriately delivered. Ensures compliance with special education laws, regulations, and district policies, including monitoring IEP implementation, behavior intervention plans (BIPs), and disciplinary procedures for students with disabilities or those in the evaluation process. Acts as a liaison between the school and parents of students receiving special education services. Works with the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) team to identify and support students who may require additional academic or behavioral interventions. Provides training and guidance to paraprofessionals regarding behavior management, curriculum implementation, and classroom support strategies. Supports the implementation of special education curriculum and instructional practices. Works collaboratively with school counselors to ensure graduation requirements are met for students pursuing the South Carolina Employability Credential. Monitors student progress and relevant subgroup data as required by the South Carolina Department of Education. Inspects the school facility as requested, recommends improvements, and takes steps to correct identified deficiencies to maintain a safe environment for students and staff. Coordinates the use of the school building and facilities. Assists with school operations including purchasing procedures and monitoring expenditures. Provides relevant professional development opportunities for staff and coordinates required training, including Crisis Intervention training. Establishes and maintains positive relationships with parents, community members, and local organizations to foster support for school programs and initiatives. Presents a positive image of Spartanburg County District Two Schools at all times. Performs other related duties as required.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Education and Experience Master's degree or higher with at least five years of experience as a classroom teacher and at least two years of experience in public school administration; or an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Must possess or be eligible for a valid South Carolina principal or supervisor certification. Experience working with students with disabilities and knowledge of special education programming preferred. Knowledge Knowledge of the development, planning, organization, implementation, and management of instructional programs designed to meet educational objectives. Strong knowledge of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), special education policies, and compliance requirements. Knowledge of state and federal laws, district policies, and procedures related to education and special education services. Ability to remain current on changes in policies, standards, and regulations affecting instructional programs and special education services. Skills/Effort Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with school and district staff, students, parents, and community members. Ability to guide and instruct staff through explanation, demonstration, and supervised practice. Ability to analyze data, maintain records, and prepare reports. Ability to effectively manage multiple responsibilities and maintain compliance with regulatory requirements. Ability to operate general office equipment including computers, calculators, and copiers. Working Conditions School environment with no significant exposure to adverse environmental conditions. Work requires the ability to manage responsibilities that involve considerable attention to detail and interaction with students and staff. Physical demands are restricted to school activities requiring movement and lifting items weighing up to 25 pounds. Occasional local and overnight travel may be required. Responsibility Assists in the supervision of school staff and students and supports the principal in ensuring effective operation of the school.
