To assist the principal in leading the instructional and operational functions of the school with a focus on improving student achievement, managing student behavior, ensuring teacher effectiveness, and promoting a safe and inclusive campus culture. The Elementary Assistant Principal serves as a key member of the leadership team in the implementation of district goals, instructional best practices, and compliance with state and federal regulations.Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Instructional Leadership Support the principal in implementing the campus instructional vision aligned with the Sheldon ISD Strategic Plan and state academic standards. Assist with leading PLCs, analyzing student data, and supporting data-driven instruction to close achievement gaps. Provide instructional coaching and feedback to teachers through frequent walkthroughs, informal observations, and formal evaluations using T-TESS. Collaborate with instructional coaches and specialists to develop and monitor intervention plans for struggling students. Support curriculum alignment and implementation across grade levels, ensuring vertical and horizontal coherence. Monitor the effectiveness of instructional programs, including special programs (e.g., Bilingual/ESL, Special Education, Dyslexia, 504). School Culture, Climate, and Student Support Promote a positive, inclusive, and student-centered school culture that fosters equity, engagement, and high expectations. Serve as the campus behavior and discipline lead by managing student conduct, investigating incidents, and implementing disciplinary consequences in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct. Support campus-wide implementation of Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) and SEL initiatives. Partner with counselors and support staff to develop behavior intervention plans and address chronic attendance and behavioral concerns. Build strong relationships with students, families, and staff to encourage trust, safety, and school pride. Staff Development and Supervision Assist the principal in the selection, onboarding, and supervision of teachers, paraprofessionals, and support staff. Conduct T-TESS evaluations and support staff growth through coaching, feedback, and performance improvement plans when necessary. Identify and support opportunities for staff professional development aligned to campus goals. Assist in developing duty rosters, class coverage plans, and teacher schedules to ensure effective operations. Maintain accurate documentation related to staff appraisals, coaching logs, and compliance records. Operational Management Support the coordination of daily school operations including arrival/dismissal, lunch, recess, transportation, and substitute coverage. Collaborate with the testing coordinator to manage state assessments (STAAR, TELPAS, etc.), including training, logistics, and test security protocols. Serve on the campus emergency management team and lead safety drills, crisis response procedures, and student accountability systems. Help ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local policies, including special education, 504, child welfare, and health regulations. Parent and Community Engagement Assist in organizing and participating in parent-teacher conferences, open houses, and other campus events. Serve as a liaison between the school and community stakeholders to build partnerships that support student learning and wellness. Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding student behavior, academic concerns, and school policies. Handle parent inquiries and concerns professionally and in alignment with district protocols. Other Duties Represent the campus in district-level committees and leadership development programs. Participate in leadership meetings, professional learning, and school improvement planning. Perform other duties as assigned by the campus principal or district leadership.Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Master's degree in Educational Leadership, Administration, or related field Valid Texas Principal Certificate Certified Texas Teacher Evaluation and Support System (T-TESS) Appraiser (or willingness to become certified)Special Knowledge/Skills:
Deep understanding of elementary curriculum, instruction, and assessment Knowledge of behavioral intervention systems, student discipline, and restorative practices Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills Proficient in analyzing and interpreting student performance data to drive instructional decisions Ability to inspire, lead, and build trust among students, staff, and familiesExperience:
Minimum of 3 years of successful classroom teaching experience at the elementary level Demonstrated campus leadership experience (e.g., team lead, coach, interventionist, administrative intern) Works a 212 Day Calendar Salary is commensurate with experience Minimum Salary $79,678 Please note that this role requires in-person attendance and is not eligible for remote work. Sheldon ISD will accept applications for this position through May 19, 2026. After this date, applications will continue to be accepted in the event a suitable candidate is not identified.
