Job Description

The Director of Student Care & Accessibility provides strategic leadership and oversight of student support services designed to remove non-academic barriers to student success. This role oversees the college's disability support services, mental health referral services, and basic needs assistance initiatives such as the food pantry, clothing closet, and daycare and transportation assistance programs. While services are open to all students, this position prioritizes support for students with disabilities, student parents, and economically disadvantaged populations. This position reports to the Associate Dean of Academic Support & Instructional Services.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Works predominately with special populations of students including, but not limited to, individuals with disabilities, single parents, individuals from economically disadvantaged families, individuals pursuing non-traditional fields, etc. Serve as a primary point of contact for students seeking assistance with personal, financial, or other non-academic concerns. Assist students with mental health services, including on-campus support, online support, and referrals. Oversee services provided through the campus food pantry and clothing closet. Communicate information about available resources and support programs to students, faculty, staff, and the community. Collaborate with other college departments and external agencies to build relationships and maximize support resources for students. Serve as campus Pregnant and Parenting and Foster Care liaison. Maintain necessary confidential records of student assistance services, using the information to prepare bi-annual reports on services provided and student retention as well as reports for Perkins Basic Grant and Student Success Acceleration Program (SSAP) Grant purposes. Develop and update policies and procedures related to student support and accessibility services. Monitor program effectiveness through data collection, reporting, and evaluation. Seek and manage external funding and community partnerships to expand support services. Ensures access to courses for students by coordinating assistance programs including disability support services, daycare assistance, transportation assistance, and any additional assistance services should the need arise.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

EDUCATION
Bachelor's Degree required. Master's degree in counseling, psychology, education, communication, or related fields preferred.
EXPERIENCE
Experience working with special populations preferred, experience in higher education or secondary education preferred. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of the following is required: Diagnostic testing and development of individual educational plans. Community resources in order to act as a liaison for special population students. Computers, spreadsheets, and other data management. Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills. Physical Requirements Requires constant sitting, walking, and seeing. Requires frequent standing, lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying objects up to 25 pounds; operating a calculator, personal computer, and various office equipment. Requires infrequent stooping, bending, sorting, and filing. Security Sensitive This position is security-sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code §51.215.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Normal office setting, some local travel required for informational events and professional development.
