Job Description
Lake Travis Christian Academy is a growing, faith-based private school in the Lake Travis / Spicewood area serving students ages 4-18. We're part of the Acton Academy network, a learner-driven model where students (learners) own their education through Socratic discussion, real-world quests, mastery-based badge progression, and peer-driven accountability. Our mixed-age studios replace traditional classrooms, and our guides replace traditional teachers who ask questions instead of giving answers, design challenges instead of delivering lectures, and trust young people to lead their own learning. We're on a new campus, growing toward 150 students, and building out a high school program. We're looking for an Assistant Head of School who can come alongside our Head of School and drive the daily operations of a school that does things differently. This person is a culture builder whose faith is out front, a natural connector in the community, and someone who thrives in the beautiful chaos of a learner-driven campus. If you've been waiting for a role where your faith, your leadership, and your love for kids all belong in the same room — this is it.
What Makes This School Different:
This isn't a traditional school. There are no lectures. No grade levels. No rows of desks. Our heroes work in mixed-age studios, set their own goals, hold each other accountable through student-drafted contracts, and present their learning to real audiences. Guides don't teach; they design challenges, ask Socratic questions, and get out of the way. It's messy, it's beautiful, and it works. If that excites you more than it scares you, keep reading. What you will do:
Drive daily school operations across three mixed-age studios (early childhood, elementary, and middle school) in partnership with the Head of School Coordinate admissions, campus tours, re-enrollment, and family onboarding alongside the ownership team Support and develop Socratic guides — helping them ask better questions, design stronger challenges, and trust the process Manage student accountability systems (honor code, studio contracts, peer governance, Recommitment Contracts) Oversee scheduling, logistics, and the dozens of small things that keep a campus running well Serve as a key point of contact for parent communication Culture & Faith Leadership Set the relational and spiritual tone on campus every single day — not from a stage, but in the hallway, at the lunch table, and in hard conversations Model what it looks like to lead with grace and conviction so that heroes, families, and staff experience a community anchored in Christ Build and protect a culture where integrity, courage, and service to others are the standard — and where accountability and grace go hand in hand Community Engagement Represent LTCA in the Lake Travis / Spicewood community — building relationships with local businesses, churches, and organizations Open doors for student apprenticeships, service projects, quest partnerships, and real-world learning experiences Be a familiar face at community events and a natural ambassador for what we're building Requirements (Must-Haves) A Christ-centered leader whose faith shows up in how they treat people, handle conflict, and set the tone — not just in what they believe Experience working in a mixed-age, learner-driven environment (Acton, Montessori, microschool, or similar progressive model) 2+ years in a school leadership or senior guide role You understand the difference between guiding and teaching — and you're committed to staying on the right side of that line A natural relationship builder who's comfortable in the community making connections and creating opportunities for students Strong organizational skills — you can manage the details without losing sight of the mission Warm, direct communicator who can partner with parents, coach staff, and connect with kids Collaborative to your core — this role works alongside the Head of School, not apart from them Preferred Qualifications (Nice-to-Haves) Direct experience with the Acton Academy model and Hero's Journey framework Background in Socratic facilitation and quest-based learning design Existing relationships in the Lake Travis / Hill Country community Experience supporting admissions and enrollment growth Familiarity with student-drafted contracts, peer accountability, and studio governance systemsJob Type:
