Position Summary The Attendance Specialist plays a critical role in promoting student achievement by ensuring consistent school attendance and addressing barriers to attendance in a public secondary school setting. This position is responsible for the accurate recording, monitoring, and analysis of student attendance data, as well as implementing proactive interventions to reduce absenteeism and truancy. The Attendance Specialist serves as a key liaison between the school, families, and community resources, fostering positive relationships that support student engagement and compliance with attendance expectations and state laws. Key Responsibilities Maintain accurate, real-time attendance records using the school's student information system (SIS), ensuring data integrity and compliance with district standards. Monitor daily attendance submissions from teachers and follow up promptly on discrepancies or missing data. Analyze attendance patterns, generate reports, and identify trends related to chronic absenteeism, tardiness, and early checkouts. Proactively identify at-risk students and collaborate with school staff to implement early intervention strategies. Communicate regularly with parents/guardians through phone calls, emails, letters, and, when appropriate, home visit coordination to address attendance concerns and reinforce expectations. Facilitate attendance meetings with students, families, counselors, and administrators to develop intervention plans and set measurable goals. Prepare, track, and process truancy documentation in accordance with district policies and state laws, including referrals, citations, and court-related paperwork when applicable. Serve as a resource to families by identifying and connecting them with school or community supports (e.g., transportation, counseling, social services) that may improve student attendance. Partner with counselors, behavior specialists, and administrators to address underlying causes of absenteeism, including academic, social-emotional, and family-related factors. Support school-wide attendance initiatives, campaigns, and incentives designed to promote a positive attendance culture. Administers first aid and prescription medications to students for the purpose of providing emergency or necessary care in accordance with district, state and federal requirements. Coordinates a variety of projects and/or activities (e.g. locker assignments, daily attendance lists, depositing funds collected at the site, etc.) for the purpose of meeting requirements for site operation. Provide training or guidance to staff on attendance procedures, policies, and best practices. Assist front office operations, including greeting visitors, handling student check-in/check-out, and responding to attendance inquiries. Maintain organized and secure records while ensuring all student information is handled confidentially in compliance with FERPA and district policies. Required Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required Previous experience in a school setting, student services, attendance tracking, or administrative support. Working knowledge of student information systems and data management tools. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively and professionally with students, families, and staff. Demonstrated ability to manage sensitive situations with discretion, empathy, and professionalism. Strong organizational skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment. Preferred Qualifications Experience in a middle school or high school environment. Familiarity with state attendance laws, truancy procedures, and compulsory education requirements. Bilingual or multilingual skills to support diverse school communities. Experience in case management, social services, or student intervention programs. Knowledge of restorative practices or positive behavior supports. Core Competencies

Requires collaboration across multiple departments including administration, counseling, and student services. Physical Requirements Ability to sit or stand for extended periods. Frequent use of computers and office equipment. Occasional walking throughout the school campus to interact with staff and students.
