04/03/2026 POSITION SUMMARY Lynchburg City Schools seeks a strong, student-centered leader to serve as Principal of E.C. Glass High School. The principal will drive academic achievement while ensuring a safe, structured, and supportive environment for students and staff. This role requires a visible, engaged leader who builds a culture of high expectations, accountability, and collaboration, with a sharp focus on teaching, learning, and continuous improvement aligned to Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) expectations. Lead and monitor high-quality instruction aligned to improved student achievement and SOL outcomes Use data to drive decisions, monitor progress, and adjust strategies in alignment with VDOE accreditation standards Establish and maintain a safe, orderly, and supportive school environment Implement and uphold clear, fair, and consistent discipline practices Maintain a strong, visible presence in classrooms to support instructional growth Collaborate with staff through PLCs and instructional teams to strengthen teaching and learning Support, evaluate, and develop staff through clear expectations and accountability Build strong relationships with students, staff, families, and community partners Oversee daily school operations, including scheduling, supervision, and management Communicate clearly and consistently with all stakeholders Manage school resources, including budget and facilities, responsibly and transparentlyLYNCHBURG CITY SCHOOLS COMPETENCIES

Possess a Virginia postgraduate professional license with an endorsement in Administration and Supervision PreK-12 or eligible for such an endorsement. Minimum of three years of successful teaching experience Documented successful school leadership experience (assistant principal or principal required) Demonstrated success in improving student achievement and instructional practices, including SOL performance Experience creating safe, structured, and supportive school environments Evidence of effective discipline systems and improved school climate Proven ability to build relationships and lead collaborativelyKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of instructional leadership, curriculum alignment, and Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL) to improve student achievement and accreditation outcomes. Knowledge of data analysis, assessment systems, and continuous improvement processes aligned with Virginia Department of Education expectations. Knowledge of school operations, discipline systems, and safety protocols to maintain a structured and supportive school environment. Skill in analyzing student data to monitor progress and implement strategies to improve academic outcomes and close achievement gaps. Skill in coaching and evaluating staff through observations, feedback, and professional development to strengthen instructional practices. Skill in communicating effectively with stakeholders to build trust, collaboration, and shared accountability. Ability to lead a culture of high expectations, accountability, and continuous improvement focused on student achievement. Ability to establish and maintain a safe, orderly, and supportive school environment through consistent systems. Ability to build relationships and collaborate with diverse stakeholders to support teaching, learning, and school success.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
Directly supervises all school employees including but not limited to the administrative, custodial, instructional, and student support staff Participates in the hiring process and makes hiring decisions of other employees Instructs, trains, coaches, and mentors other employees Schedules (determine hours worked, time off), reviews, and monitors the work of other employees Completes written evaluations of other employees Makes recommendations of disciplinary actions of other employeesTRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
