MIDDLE SCHOOL ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL
Performs difficult professional and responsible administrative work assisting the principal in the coordination, supervision and management of the total school program and operation. As part of the administrative team, the assistant principal provides leadership in activities and programs as necessary; does related work as required. Work is performed under the regular supervision of the Middle School Principal. This is sedentary work requiring the exertion of up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects; work requires climbing, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS
This position description is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties, knowledge or skills associated with Assisting the principal in developing and maintaining an effective educational program consistent with state and federal guidelines and the philosophy, policies and goals of the school board ensuring staff safety. Assists in planning, supervising and evaluating the instructional program; Participates in the evaluation of teachers and other employees; Participates in the development of a master schedule; Coordinate bus transportation; Secures substitutes; Monitors and evaluates the instructional planning, delivery of instruction and management of that instruction; Attends all Parent Teacher Association meetings and related assemblies; Participates in child study team meetings; Conducts meetings with parents, students and teachers; Enforces standards of discipline, health, safety and general welfare for students; Assists in the maintenance of inventories and the distribution of materials, books and equipment; Prepares and submits a variety of reports; prepares and maintains records and files; Participates in Individual Education Plan (IEP) meetings in absence of principal; Maintains facilities in a safe, orderly and attractive manner; Serves as acting principal in the absence of the principal; Serves on divisionwide, regional and state committees as necessary; Performs related tasks as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Thorough knowledge of the practices, methods and techniques used in the administration and supervision of all programs at the middle school; strong oral and written communication skills; outstanding leadership and personal characteristics; ability to motivate other to reach their fullest potential; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, the School Board and the general public.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with major course work in educational administration and considerable teaching experience.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Possession of postgraduate professional license with an endorsement as a middle school principal.
