Job Description
Canaan Schools is looking for person for our Athletic Director part-time Position for the School Year 2023-2024 to be available afterschool, weekends and school breaks. This is a supplemental position and paid by stipend.
General Description
Coordinates and supervises the extracurricular and intramural athletic programs in order to support the
positive athletic and personal development of students.
Primary Responsibilities
1. Creates game schedules that are competitive, affordable, and meet the playoff standards of the NHIAA.
2. Coordinates with the Principal and bus contractors to schedule and reschedule games as necessary.
3. Works with assigners to ensure adequate referee coverage of all athletic events; ensures that referees are
paid.
4. Creates practice schedules in collaboration with coaches, the Principal, and Pittsburg School. Ensures that game and
practice schedules are well published, accurate, and communicated in a timely manner to students,
parents, staff, and bus contractors.
5. Makes coach hiring recommendations to the Principal.
6. Creates a coach evaluation system in consultation with the Principal, and evaluates coaches consistent
with that system in order to improve coaching skills and to make hiring recommendations to the
Principal.
7. Works with the Principal and coaches to create a common standard of expectation for student
participation in extracurricular activities.
8. Acts as the school NHIAA representative at NHIAA-sanctioned school athletic events.
9. Supervises the use and purchase of extracurricular athletic equipment and supplies, and recommends an
annual budget to the Principal for extracurricular equipment and supplies.
10. Attends league meetings and conferences as directed by the Principal.
11. Ensures that athletic facilities and equipment meet NHIAA and safety standards, and are prepared in
advance of athletic competition.
12. Assumes other athletic supervisory duties as assigned by the Principal.
