Given the diversity of our student population, we encourage applications from faculty who can adapt teaching methods to a wide range of student backgrounds and interests. Under the general direction of the VP of Student Success, the full time adjunct College Success Instructor provides instruction for first-quarter students enrolled in career training pathways. Specifically, the position supports the college's mission by increasing student success and retention efforts by fostering student development and providing tools for success in their first quarter experience. The course is designed to help students successfully transition into college and provide skills for successful completion of certificates and degrees. Modules currently include teaching college tools and technology platforms, academic success strategies, financial success strategies, social success strategies, and career success strategies. While the full salary range for this position is listed per the Faculty CBA, most new hires are brought in below the top of the range, depending on experience, skills, and internal equity. The anticipated starting salary for this role is between $78,452 and $81,049. This position is represented by the Clover Park Federation of Teachers, Local 3913, AFT/ AFT Washington. Duties and Tasks (Essential Functions)
Duty:
Primary Instruction Duties Tasks include: Provide student instruction. Set up and maintain the classroom. Ensure student grades are submitted in a timely manner. Prepare and plan lessons. • Provide office hours for advising students. Develop, maintain and update courses and program curriculum. • Assess student learning outcomes. Develop and provide training for new and current College Success faculty. Assist in developing quarterly schedule of College Success courses. Assess College Success courses. Review College Success course data to make improvements. Perform special related assignments/projects as needed.
Duty:
College Support Functions Tasks include: Actively participate on college committees. Participate in shared governance. Promote the program and College. Attend and actively participate in all-staff meetings, division meetings, and program-related meetings. Assist with student recruitment and retention. Attend and actively participate at College open houses and expo's. Maintain collaborative communication with faculty, students, and other campus departments. Attend major college events when scheduled. Other related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Master's degree in the field of the educational service (Higher Education, College Student Personnel, Student Development, or related area), or a Bachelor's degree in student affairs or related field and professional expertise in the field of the educational services (student affairs, student support, or related area). Experience teaching college level courses. A demonstrable understanding and acceptance of the mission, role, and character of the community or technical college. The ability to perform assigned duties in a manner consistent with the goals/priorities of the institution and the community and technical college system. The ability to contribute to the college's commitment to diversity fostering a climate of multicultural understanding and appreciation. Preferred Qualifications Relevant work experience and/or relevant current teaching experience that particularly qualifies to provide instruction in areas of student support, onboarding/access to college, developing student skills to be a successful college student, etc Familiarity with and commitment to the use of Open Educational Resources (OER).
