Job Description
Athletic Director (.5 FTE) / Secondary Teacher (.5 FTE) Open until Filled Position Summary The school district is seeking a dynamic and student-focused educator to serve in a dual-role position as a 0.5 FTE Athletic Director and 0.5 FTE Secondary Teacher. This position combines instructional responsibilities at the secondary level with leadership and oversight of the district's interscholastic athletic programs. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong instructional practices, effective leadership skills, and a commitment to supporting the academic, social, and athletic development of students in alignment with Washington State standards and the mission of the district. This is a combined 1.0 FTE position consisting of: 0.5 FTE Athletic Director 0.5 FTE Secondary Teacher Athletic Director Responsibilities (.5 FTE) Coordinate and supervise middle school and/or high school athletic programs Ensure compliance with all rules, regulations, and eligibility requirements established by the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA), league policies, and district procedures Schedule contests, officials, transportation, facilities, and athletic events Supervise, support, and evaluate coaching staff Promote sportsmanship, student participation, and equitable access to athletic opportunities Monitor student-athlete academic eligibility and attendance requirements Manage athletic budgets, purchasing, uniforms, and equipment inventories Coordinate athletic registration, preseason meetings, and awards programs Ensure compliance with district safety protocols, concussion training requirements, and Title IX regulations Serve as liaison between the school, families, community members, and athletic organizations Attend league and district athletic meetings as required Secondary Teacher Responsibilities (.5 FTE) Provide instruction aligned with Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) learning standards and district curriculum Develop and implement engaging lesson plans that support student growth and achievement Create a safe, inclusive, and culturally responsive classroom environment Assess and monitor student learning using a variety of instructional strategies and assessments Maintain accurate student records, grades, and attendance Communicate effectively with students, families, and staff Collaborate with colleagues in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) and district initiatives Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and required district trainings Support Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) and student intervention efforts as appropriate Minimum Qualifications Valid Washington State teaching certificate with appropriate secondary endorsement Ability to meet all district and WIAA coaching and athletic leadership requirements Successful experience working with secondary students Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills Demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, and positive school culture Preferred Qualifications Previous experience as an Athletic Director, Dean of Students, or related experience Coaching experience at the middle school and/or high school level Knowledge of WIAA regulations, eligibility procedures, and athletic scheduling systems Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification Work Environment & Schedule Teaching duties performed during the regular school day Athletic Director responsibilities require evening and weekend attendance at athletic events and activities Travel to event locations may be required Salary and Benefits Salary placement is based on the district's certificated salary schedule, applicable collective bargaining agreements, education, and experience. Benefits are provided in accordance with Washington State law and district policy.
