Job Description
The Assistant Principal of School Culture at Dr. Howard Fuller Collegiate Academy (HFCA) serves as a key member of the campus leadership team and is responsible for leading the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of a safe, structured, and high-expectations school environment. This leader establishes clear systems, routines, and accountability measures that promote consistency across classrooms and common spaces while fostering a strong sense of belonging and scholar ownership. The Assistant Principal oversees comprehensive student culture systems that support scholars academically, socially, and emotionally, including discipline frameworks, restorative practices, attendance initiatives, behavioral interventions, and student engagement efforts. This role monitors culture data trends, leads proactive interventions, and partners with families to ensure student success. In close collaboration with instructional leaders, the Assistant Principal ensures that culture systems and academic priorities operate in alignment, supporting teachers in maintaining strong classroom management and maximizing instructional time. Through visible leadership, coaching, and consistent follow-through, this leader cultivates a positive, achievement-oriented school climate where scholars and staff thrive.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
School Culture & Climate Leadership Design, implement, and sustain a culture of high expectations aligned to HFCA's PRIDE values. Establish and reinforce consistent campus-wide systems for behavior, accountability, and scholar recognition. Serve as a visible and consistent presence throughout the building during arrival, transitions, lunch, dismissal, and events. Lead Tier 1 and Tier 2 behavior supports and collaborates on Tier 3 interventions as needed. Partner with counselors, deans, student life, and academic leaders to support the whole scholar. Lead initiatives that strengthen scholar belonging, engagement, and identity development. Oversee campus safety protocols, drills, and emergency procedures in partnership with campus administration. Positive Discipline & Restorative Practices Supervise and improve discipline systems to ensure consistency, fairness, and alignment with HFCA values. Ensure discipline practices are strengths-based, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive. Maintain accurate discipline and attendance records; analyze trends and share insights with leadership. Support staff in implementing proactive classroom management systems. Develop intervention plans that reduce repeat behaviors and increase scholar retention. Lead restorative conversations with scholars and families when necessary. Student Engagement & Retention Lead efforts to improve scholar attendance and reduce chronic absenteeism. Collaborate with families to address attendance and behavior concerns. Support new scholar onboarding and orientation programming. Develop systems to strengthen scholar retention year over year. Partner with Student Life and Athletics to promote extracurricular engagement. Instructional & Leadership Collaboration Serve as a member of the campus leadership team. Partner with the Principal and instructional leaders to ensure culture systems support academic achievement. Conduct classroom walkthroughs with a focus on engagement, classroom environment, and scholar culture. Support teacher development in classroom management and culture-building practices. Assist in staff recruitment, hiring, and onboarding of mission-aligned educators. Co-lead professional development related to culture, engagement, and scholar support. Staff Supervision Directly supervise and support designated student support personnel (e.g., Deans, Student Life Coordinators, Counselors, etc.). Provide coaching and feedback to staff responsible for culture and scholar support initiatives.QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
Master's Degree in Education, Educational Leadership, or related field required Wisconsin Administrative License (or eligibility) required Minimum 3-5 years successful teaching experience Demonstrated success in school culture leadership or dean-level experience Strong understanding of restorative practices and culturally responsive leadership Experience analyzing discipline and attendance data to drive improvement Deep commitment to scholars in urban education settings Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills Alignment with HFCA's mission and PRIDE valuesEQUAL OPPORTUNITIES EMPLOYER HFCA
