To serve as the instructional and operational leader of the school while also providing direct oversight of the school's interscholastic athletic program in accordance with West Virginia Code §18A-2-1a, WVSSAC regulations, and county board policy. This role ensures that both academic and athletic programs operate safely, effectively, and in alignment with district goals. Key duties include managing resources, evaluating teachers, counseling students, developing school-wide goals, and maintaining communication with teachers, students, parents, and the community.Qualifications:
WV Professional Administrative Certificate with Endorsement PK-AD or appropriate endorsement Master's Degree or above in education, with emphasis on leadership/administration (required) Principal / Administrative experience preferred (3+ years in Secondary) Successful experience as a teacher (3+ years of successful teaching experience) Knowledge of the WV Standards for High Quality Schools (WV Code §18A-2-9) Knowledge of the school accreditation process (WV Code §18A-2-9) Knowledge of strategic planning for continuing improvement (WV Code §18A-2-9) Knowledge of Support for Personalized Learning (SPL), Special Education, MTSS and other instructional frameworks that support student success Knowledge of best practices relative to secondary curricula and instruction/school improvement Knowledge/skills to utilizeWVEIS 2.0
Working knowledge of WVSSAC rules and regulations Evaluation training 5310 Knowledge of current student discipline and attendance requirements Demonstrates thorough knowledge of, and adherence to, West Virginia Board of Education policies, including the Accounting Procedures Manual for Schools (Policy 1224.1) and the Purchasing Policies and Procedures Manual (Policy 8200). Ensures full compliance with all applicable WVBE and county policies governing purchasing, procurement, and competitive bidding. Maintains strict financial accountability through proper documentation, required approval processes, and ethical stewardship of public funds, in accordance with West Virginia law and county board policy. Knowledge of student enrollment procedures; school scheduling; substitute management processes Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent Essential Duties and Responsibilities Instructional Leadership and Curriculum Oversight Serve as the instructional leader of the school and promote a culture of high expectations and academic excellence. Oversee implementation of curriculum, instructional programs, and assessment systems aligned with state standards and district goals. Monitor instructional effectiveness through classroom observations, walkthroughs, data analysis, and collaborative feedback. Support teachers in the implementation of evidence-based instructional strategies and differentiated learning practices. Lead school improvement planning and continuous improvement efforts. Analyze student achievement data to identify trends, gaps, and targeted interventions. Promote college, career, and workforce readiness initiatives. Ensure compliance with graduation requirements, scheduling requirements, and instructional mandates. Support special education, gifted education, career and technical education, intervention programs, and student support services. Facilitate professional learning communities and staff professional development initiatives. Personnel Supervision and Evaluation Supervise and evaluate professional, service, substitute, and extracurricular personnel in accordance with state law, district policy, and evaluation systems. Foster a collaborative, respectful, and accountable professional culture. Recruit, recommend, mentor, and retain highly qualified personnel. Address personnel concerns, employee conduct, and workplace expectations appropriately and professionally. Support employee growth through coaching, mentoring, and professional development opportunities. Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all personnel matters. Student Discipline, Attendance, and School Climate Establish and maintain a safe, orderly, inclusive, and positive school environment. Implement and oversee student discipline procedures in accordance with board policy, state law, and due process requirements. Address student behavior, attendance, truancy, bullying, harassment, and school safety concerns effectively and consistently. Promote restorative practices, student accountability, and positive behavioral supports. Coordinate crisis response procedures and emergency management protocols. Ensure proper supervision of students during the school day and all school-sponsored activities. Communication and Public Relations Maintain effective communication with students, staff, parents, district administration, and community stakeholders. Provide timely and accurate information regarding school operations, programs, events, and concerns. Address parent and community inquiries and concerns professionally and respectfully. Promote transparency, collaboration, and positive school-community relationships. Represent the school in meetings, public events, district functions, and community activities. Utilize multiple communication platforms effectively, including written correspondence, presentations, digital communication, and social media where appropriate. Financial and Operational Oversight Develop, manage, and monitor school budgets and financial resources responsibly and transparently. Oversee purchasing, inventory, fundraising, and financial procedures in compliance with district policies and auditing requirements. Supervise building operations, maintenance concerns, transportation coordination, and facility usage. Ensure compliance with all applicable state and federal regulations, reporting requirements, and operational procedures. Coordinate school safety plans, drills, and emergency preparedness procedures. Athletics and Extracurricular Oversight Provide administrative oversight of all athletic programs, extracurricular activities, clubs, organizations, and student events. Ensure compliance with all districts, state athletic associations, and extracurricular regulations and eligibility requirements. Promote student participation, sportsmanship, leadership, and positive representation of the school. Supervise athletic director(s), coaches, sponsors, and activity supervisors. Oversee scheduling, event management, supervision, transportation, and safety procedures for extracurricular activities. Attend or provide a designee for all home athletic events in a support and supervisory capacity. Ensure all away activities are properly supervised. Family and Community Engagement Build strong partnerships with families, businesses, civic organizations, higher education institutions, and community agencies. Encourage meaningful parent and community involvement in school activities and decision-making processes. Promote school programs and achievements throughout the community. Support partnerships that enhance student opportunities and school resources. Celebrate and publicize student success, in all regards. Build a strong foundation of family and community engagement and support Proactively build the brand of the school to instill confidence in the educational opportunities provided to students. Promote and support student and family information and communication regarding all aspects of the school. Compliance and Professional Responsibilities Ensure school compliance with all applicable laws, policies, procedures, and regulations. Maintain accurate records, reports, and documentation. Attend required meetings, training, and professional development activities. Demonstrate professionalism, ethical conduct, confidentiality, and sound judgment.
