CLASSROOM TEACHER - K-8 I. BRIEF DESCRIPTION
In compliance with the Education Code of the State of California and following district policies, regulations and curriculum guides, The Classroom Teacher provides the educational program for students in the assigned grade level(s).
II. RESPONSIBLE TO
Principal - Site Administrator
III. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Design and deliver a highly effective program of instruction within the framework of the prescribed curriculum to engage and guide each student to successfully achieve the goals and objectives for the assigned subject(s) and grade level(s). 2. Design and develop lesson plans and related instructional materials to differentiate instruction to address diverse student needs and interests. 3. Help each child in developing an understanding of self in the context of society and provide formal and informal learning experience to build good citizenship. 4. Provide planned learning experiences to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student. 5. Establish and maintain standards and procedures for classroom management and discipline to support the students' development as individuals and as members of a group in a positive, supportive learning environment. 6. Evaluate student's academic and social growth, keep appropriate records, prepare progress reports and communicate with parents regularly on each child's progress. 7. Identify student's needs and collaborate with colleagues to assess and develop strategies to address student needs in health, social-emotional development and learning. 8. With student involvement, create and maintain a functional and attractive environment for learning. 9. Supervise students in out-of-classroom activities during the working day. 10. Actively participate in curriculum improvement and other instructional programs within the school and district. 11. Share in the responsibilities for school activities. 12. Maintain professional competence through participation in inservice education activities provided by the district and/or self-selected professional growth activities. 13. Maintain harmonious relations with students, staff, parents, and the community. 14. Communicate with parents through a variety of means: written notes and email, conduct conferences, report cards, class/school newsletters, and telephone contacts.
IV. QUALIFICATIONS
Valid California credential and qualifications appropriate to the specific assignment with CLAD Meet "highly qualified" requirements for No Child Left Behind Act, 2001. Understanding of the physical, mental, and emotional growth and development of children and ability to apply to the teaching and learning processes. Understanding of a variety of instructional strategies to differentiate instruction to meet the individual needs of students.
