School Principal Position Overview The Little School seeks a passionate and innovative Elementary School Instructor who embraces a student-centered, self-directed learning approach similar to that of the Sudbury and Montessori philosophies. This educator will facilitate an environment where students develop independence, critical thinking, and a love for learning. The ideal candidate will foster a democratic and inquiry-based classroom, guiding students through experiential, project-based, and hands-on learning experiences. Key Responsibilities Support self-directed learning, helping students identify their interests and set personal learning goals. Facilitate multi-age learning communities, encouraging collaboration and problem-solving. Guide students in developing strong executive function skills, such as time management, self-motivation, and personal responsibility. Design learning spaces that promote exploration, independence, and creativity. Observe and assess student progress holistically, providing feedback without traditional grading systems. Encourage democratic participation, allowing students a voice in school governance and decision-making. Maintain strong partnerships with families and the community, involving them in the learning process. Uphold and promote Lasallian values, fostering respect, service, and a deep sense of personal and social responsibility. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field (Montessori or Sudbury training/certification is a plus). Experience teaching in student-centered, progressive, similar to Montessori, or Sudbury-inspired environments, and in multi-age classroom settings. A deep commitment to respecting children's autonomy and supporting self-directed learning. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, fostering collaboration with students, parents, and fellow educators. Comfort with non-traditional assessment methods and a willingness to step away from conventional grading and standardized testing. Spanish proficiency is a plus.
