Full Job Description Elementary School Teacher Reports To:
Principal General:
Ensure student proficiency in subject areas of responsibility. Teachers work with their colleagues to develop personalized lesson plans and projects for delivery. The teacher is accountable for academic and emotional growth and communicating effectively with parents, students and school leadership.
QUALIFICATIONS
License and Certification Qualifications:
Meets or is preparing to meet the Georgia certification requirements in the appropriate field of education preferred.
Education Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in applicable field of education from a Professional Standards Commission (PSC) approved college or university required. Previous teaching experience preferred. In-depth knowledge of content in field of certification; knowledge of techniques for integrating curriculum, and effective instructional practices Ability to understand the teaching/learning process Ability to infuse the arts into instruction to increase student learning Ability to work effectively with administrators, colleagues, and school staff, students, parents, and community Excellent oral and written communication skills; and effective human relations skills.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Responsibilities:
- Provides instruction in assigned course of study
- Instructs students in subject matter
- Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student.
- Uses a variety of instructional strategies, such as inquiry, group discussion, lecture, discovery, etc.
- Translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction.
- Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
- Evaluates students' academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports.
- Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss students' progress and interpret the school program.
- Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
- Creates an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and interest centers.
- Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by professional growth activities.
- Participates cooperatively with the appropriate administrator to develop the method by which the teacher will be evaluated in conformance with guidelines.
- Selects and requisitions books and instructional aids; maintains required inventory records.
- Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities during the school day.
- Administers group standardized tests in accordance with the state testing program.
- Participates in curriculum development programs as required.
- Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities.
EVALUATIVE OVERSIGHT AND ACCOUNTABILITY
SAIL Teachers report directly to the Principal The Principal evaluates teachers on the successful execution of Goals as designed above using, but not limited to the following: TKES Principal Adopted Tool as Aligned to the CPF and Other Metrics Organizational Performance Instrument.
