Grade Teacher SUMMARY:
The 3rd Grade Teacher provides engaging, standards-based instruction that supports the academic, social-emotional, and developmental growth of third grade students. The teacher creates a positive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes strong literacy, mathematics, communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. This position works collaboratively with staff, families, and support personnel to ensure all students experience success and growth in a safe and supportive learning environment while preparing students for increased academic independence and responsibility.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Plan and deliver standards-aligned instruction in literacy, mathematics, science, social studies, and social-emotional learning appropriate for third grade learners. Create a structured, engaging, and developmentally responsive classroom environment that supports student growth, independence, and academic achievement. Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse academic, behavioral, social, and emotional needs of students. Use formative and summative assessment data to monitor progress, guide instruction, and communicate student achievement. Implement evidence-based instructional strategies that strengthen reading comprehension, written communication, mathematical reasoning, and problem-solving skills. Foster positive relationships with students and maintain high expectations for behavior, engagement, responsibility, and achievement. Support students in developing organizational skills, self-advocacy, perseverance, and personal responsibility. Collaborate with grade-level teams, interventionists, special education staff, counselors, and administrators to support student success. Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress, classroom expectations, and school activities. Support and implement district curriculum, instructional initiatives, and building goals. Maintain accurate student records, attendance, assessment data, and required documentation. Supervise students during classroom activities, transitions, lunch, recess, arrival/dismissal, and other assigned duties. Participate in professional learning, district trainings, staff meetings, and collaborative planning opportunities. Promote and adhere to district policies, procedures, professional ethics, and student safety expectations. Utilize instructional technology and digital learning tools to enhance student engagement and achievement. Prepare students for state and district assessments through high-quality instruction and ongoing progress monitoring.
EDUCATION & RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education or related field required. Student teaching or successful classroom experience at the elementary level preferred. Knowledge of literacy instruction, mathematics instruction, classroom management, and differentiated instructional practices preferred.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS, OR CERTIFICATIONS
Valid State of Iowa teaching license with appropriate elementary endorsement(s) required. Reading endorsement preferred or willingness to obtain. CPR, First Aid, and Mandatory Reporter training as required by the district. Criminal background check required.
TECHNICAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES
Knowledge of elementary instructional practices, curriculum standards, and child development. Ability to design engaging lessons that support a range of learning styles and abilities. Ability to establish effective classroom management systems and maintain a positive learning environment. Ability to collect and analyze student data to inform instruction and interventions. Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills. Ability to build positive partnerships with families and staff. Skill using instructional technology, learning management systems, and district software. Ability to maintain confidentiality, demonstrate professionalism, and support student well-being. Ability to stay current with district initiatives, educational best practices, and data privacy expectations. Knowledge of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), intervention practices, and collaborative problem-solving processes preferred.
