Position Summary The 5th Grade Literacy Teacher supports Storm Lake Community School District's commitment to ensuring all students achieve at high levels within a safe, inclusive, and student-centered learning environment. This role designs and delivers rigorous, engaging literacy instruction aligned to grade-level standards while fostering a love of reading, writing, speaking, and critical thinking. The teacher builds strong relationships with students and families, uses assessment data to monitor student growth, and provides differentiated support to meet diverse learning needs. Teachers collaborate with colleagues to embrace innovation, strengthen instructional practices, and uphold collective responsibility for every learner's academic and social-emotional success. Essential Responsibilities Student Learning & Achievement Plan and deliver rigorous, standards-aligned instruction to ensure students achieve grade-level expectations. Use assessment data to monitor progress and adjust instruction to meet diverse learning needs. Provide differentiated supports to ensure access and success for all learners. Relationships & Culture Establish a safe, orderly, and inclusive classroom environment that values students' cultures and identities. Build strong, trusting relationships with students that support academic and emotional growth. Promote positive behavior and restorative practices. Family & Community Engagement Communicate consistently and effectively with families regarding student progress and learning goals. Engage families as partners in supporting grade-level achievement. Professional Collaboration & Growth Collaborate with colleagues to improve instructional practices and student outcomes. Participate in professional learning aligned to district priorities. Uphold collective responsibility for the success of all students in the school. Qualifications Valid Iowa Teaching License Terms of Employment Employment terms, salary, benefits, and evaluation procedures are established by the Storm Lake Community School District Board of Education and applicable agreements. Continued employment is contingent upon satisfactory performance and compliance with district policies and state and federal regulations.
