Erie Elementary Charter School is built on the strong foundation of the nationally accredited Childcare program at Erie Neighborhood House, a progressive social service agency serving Chicago's West Town community for 150 years. Located in Chicago's Humboldt Park neighborhood, Erie Elementary Charter School opened in September 2005 and serves 415 students in kindergarten through eighth grade in both a dual language and general education setting.
TEACHER RESPONSIBILITIES
Building Positive School Culture & Classroom Environment Continually communicate and live the school's mission and vision Acknowledge each student's cultural and linguistic experience as an asset for the child's own development and that of the other students Demonstrate strong and effective classroom management rooted in Responsive Classroom and Trauma-Informed practices Communicate high academic and behavior standards through words and actions Planning, Preparation & Instruction Possess & demonstrate deep content knowledge and pedagogy Regularly use developmentally appropriate strategies of Responsive Classroom Work collaboratively with grade level teams, specialists, resource teachers, and admin to implement school-wide curriculum, including social-emotional curriculum, with fidelity and supplement, as needed. Design and implement differentiated curriculum aligned with school standards, as needed Effectively use, adapt, and administer standards-based assessments Use individual student data to inform both daily instructional and year-long planning Create a learning environment that ensures all students can thrive Differentiate and accommodate daily instruction and student work to meet the needs of Diverse Learners Partnering with students and Families Work collaboratively with parents on a regular basis to reinforce skills and provide tools, resources, and feedback to help their child grow academically and social-emotionally. Complete home visits, when necessary. Attend occasional after-school or weekend events such as celebrations and performances Professional Responsibilities Participate in committees and initiatives that advance student learning and Erie's Mission and Vision Initiate and pursue professional development opportunities both inside and outside of the school Remain open to constructive feedback, coaching, and continual development; including making your practice public within the school Work collaboratively with all staff to uphold a strong culture of learning Attend all staff meetings and additional meetings as needed; including in-services, open houses and parent conferences Qualifications and Requirements Commitment to and belief in Erie's Mission & Vision Commitment to embodying and modeling the Habits of Heart, Mind, and Work 2-5 years successful teaching experience preferred Valid ISBE-Approved PEL license required Type 03 or 29 ESL/Bilingual Endorsement preferred Bilingual Spanish/English preferred Commitment to working with underserved students Erie offers a competitive benefits package.
