Grade 3 Teacher - 2026-2027 School Year Polaris Charter Academy is an EL Education (formerly Expeditionary Learning) school located on Chicago's west side. We empower students to become academically successful, lifelong learners with a strong sense of personal and civic responsibility. Serving 450 students in grades
K-8, PCA
emphasizes a broader definition of student achievement, prioritizing both academic excellence and character development equally. Founded in 2007 by three Golden Apple Award-winning teachers, Polaris Charter Academy (PCA) is committed to transforming education through experiential learning— learning by doing. Responsibilities:
Facilitate daily Crew , a cornerstone of Polaris culture focused on community building, goal setting, and social-emotional growth Design and deliver engaging, effective third-grade instruction aligned with Illinois learning standards and school curriculum Successfully implement innovative, research-based methods for teaching literacy and mathematics, such as Heggerty, UFLI, EL Education ELA Modules, Cognitively Guided Instruction, and Illustrative Math Foster literacy and math skills through innovative teaching strategies and hands-on activities Create a positive, achievement-oriented classroom culture with high expectations Manage classroom dynamics to cultivate a positive and productive learning environment that fosters both academic success and personal character development Build strong relationships with students and families through consistent communication. Collaborate with grade-level teams, educational assistants, learning specialists, and school leadership in ways that foster a positive, supportive, and productive work environment. Maintain accurate student records, grades, and assessments. Exhibit a growth mindset and a strong commitment to continuous improvement by learning and applying innovative, research-driven best practices. Assess student progress through various methods, including standards-based grading, curriculum-based assessments, and provide individualized support as needed. Commit to continuously improving teaching and school culture through ongoing coaching and professional development. Participate actively in professional development, staff meetings, and school events Incorporate technology, hands-on learning, and collaborative activities into daily lessons Support the mission and values of Polaris Charter Academy Qualifications Bachelor's degree or higher in Education or related field required Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) required Elementary teaching experience required Strong classroom management and organizational skills Excellent communication and collaboration abilities Commitment to educational equity, anti-racism, and student achievement Experience teaching elementary mathematics in an urban school setting Competitive salary based on experience and qualifications.
