Summary Nashoba Brooks School seeks a full-time Grade 1 teacher for the 2026-2027 academic year. The teacher is responsible for a homeroom of approximately 16 students. Candidates for this position will demonstrate a passion for teaching young children, as well as a deep understanding of the social, emotional, intellectual and physical development of Grade 1 students. The successful candidate will possess the desire to work in a dynamic, student-centered school committed to continuous learning and excellence in 21st century education. A teacher at Nashoba Brooks models the mission of the School and creates student-centered, mission-driven learning environments for students. Responsibilities As a lower school homeroom teacher, this role is responsible for:- Creating lesson plans and developing activities that support core academic skill development.
- Demonstrating facility with creating integrated curriculum units reflecting multicultural perspectives.
- Meeting and communicating with parents proactively and regularly through letters, updates, Curriculum Nights, Stepping Up Meetings, email, conferences, individualized student reports and phone conversations.
- Maintaining observational records of each child.
- Participating as an active member of teaching teams to support curriculum development and integration.
- Working closely with teaching team members and the student support team to support the educational, social and emotional development of students.
- Supporting student safety through a demonstrated commitment to emergency response training.
- Modeling excellent problem-solving and project management skills with a commitment to viewing challenges as problems that can be solved rather than obstacles that cannot be overcome.
- Supporting effective communication and collaboration within the Lower School team.
- Actively pursuing and integrating relevant professional development opportunities.
- Supporting the School community and culture through additional duties such as student supervision, attending community events, etc.
- Engaging effectively in a dynamic learning community by demonstrating flexibility and the willingness to contribute to the broader community. Skills Strong candidates will demonstrate:
- Excellent knowledge in the teaching of early elementary school-aged children.
- Excellence in integrated curriculum development, lesson planning, technology integration, and formative use of student assessments for Grade 1 students.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, which include: an ability to write detailed comments on students' progress reports, including the ability to communicate directly, effectively, respectfully and constructively with people of diverse backgrounds and experiences.
- An ability to effectively differentiate curriculum to teach students with diverse learning styles.
- Proactive teacher-parent interaction and communication.
- A proven track record of efficient project management and problem-solving skills with the ability to initiate and complete multiple tasks, independently or collaboratively, as required.
- Proficiency with technology and technology integration to support learning. Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree with significant coursework in elementary education required; master's degree preferred.
- Minimum of three years of experience in elementary teaching.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development.
Salary Range:
$61,000- $64,000/year based on 3-5 years of experience on our employee pay scale.
