Possess a valid Michigan Elementary Teaching Certificate. Have knowledge of and experience with the Michigan Math Essentials. Have knowledge of and experience with Responsive Classroom and/or Trails. Have experience teaching the district's Everyday Mathematics curriculum at the primary level. Have working familiarity with structured, explicit instruction, Math Recovery Number Words and Numerals, Structuring, Stages of Early Arithmetical Learning, and Conceptual Place Value. Have completed or are currently participating in Math Recovery professional learning. Have demonstrated proficiency with instructional techniques such as: Establishing a high level of student engagement and interaction that also takes into consideration the English language proficiency level of ELs, and builds on students' prior knowledge. Use of active learning, manipulatives, and visual displays to scaffold students' understanding of concepts and numerical relationships, e.g SIOP. Focusing on problem solving, mathematical reasoning, justifying ideas and answers, and making sense of mathematical situations Strategic use of classroom discourse through which students construct meaning and understanding.Have demonstrated:
Success working with underachieving students and closing the achievement gap(s). Success in managing and building relationships with diverse groups of students. An openness to expand on and apply targeted instructional moves that demonstrate effective teaching practices in math. Consistent use of professional language, which supports students in developing self-control, building a sense of community, and gaining academic skills and knowledge.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Communicate with students' families. Attend an evening parent orientation meeting in early June (1 hour). Implement the summer school program as designed, with fidelity. Teach small groups and individuals reading and mathematics targeted to children's observed and assessed needs. Collaborate with other summer school practitioners to reflect on student learning and adjust instructional plans to meet student needs. Participate in pre-summer school professional development (either with released time or compensation at the summer school hourly rate). Regular and reliable attendance. Communicate with Admin and Staff through Schoology Groups. Use Schoology folders for weekly communications and student activities. Use Schoology assignments and discussion for weekly activities. Promote active and engaging instruction through classroom setup and daily activities. Other related duties as assignedLANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of people.MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent, and to draw and interpret bar graphs.REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.PHYSICAL DEMANDS
