Guest Teacher (First Grade - 2-Month Assignment) Pathfinder School | Traverse City, Michigan Position Overview Pathfinder School, a Pre-K through 8th grade independent school in Traverse City, Michigan, seeks a dedicated and flexible Guest Teacher to lead a First Grade classroom for the opening of the 2026-2027 school year. This is a temporary, full-time position covering the first eight weeks of school, from September 8 through November 2 , with required participation in pre-service days from September 1 through September 4 . This role is ideal for an experienced educator who values nature-based and experiential learning , and who is excited to help establish a strong classroom foundation at the start of the academic year. Retired teachers are encouraged to apply. Key Responsibilities Serve as First Grade Homeroom Teacher during the assignment period Plan and deliver instruction in: Language Arts (with an emphasis on early literacy) Mathematics Social Studies Establish and maintain classroom routines, expectations, and culture in collaboration with the teacher on maternity leave Incorporate outdoor, nature-based, and experiential learning approaches consistent with Pathfinder School's mission Foster a nurturing, inclusive, and engaging classroom environment Communicate effectively with colleagues, school leadership, and families as needed Qualifications Teaching experience at the early elementary level Strong understanding of early literacy development and foundational math instruction Interest in or experience with nature-based and experiential education Ability to step into an established program while also helping shape the classroom environment at the start of the year Flexibility, collaboration skills, and a student-centered mindset Compensation Compensation will be based on experience . Additional Opportunity There is a possibility to extend this role into a full-year Permanent Guest Teacher position , depending on school needs and candidate interest.
