JOB TITLE:
Elementary K-2 Cross Categorical Teache r
JOB SUMMARY
The Cross Categorical Special Education Teacher will provide specialized instruction and support to students with a variety of disabilities in a self-contained setting. The teacher will develop and implement individualized educational programs (IEPs), collaborate with families and MET teams, and create a supportive, inclusive, and engaging learning environment that promotes academic, behavioral and functional growth.
MINIMAL QUALIFICATIONS
BA or BS with Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with Special Education endorsement(s) (CI, ASD or EI preferred) MA Preferred 2 years' experience working with elementary-aged students with diverse learning and behavioral needs with at least one year in special education Knowledge of
IDEA, MARSE, IEP
development, and special education compliance requirements Meet requirements of a highly qualified special education teacher Experience in working with students in groups and individually Competency in the administration and interpretation of academic ability testing Trained in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Ability to clearly communicate assessment results and learning plans, in written and oral form, to parents and professionals Ability to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of individual students Ability to work cooperatively with evaluation and IEP teams, special education and general education staff Ability to complete and maintain required records, forms, and reports in a professional and timely manner Ability to be flexible, to work independently, and to contribute as a member of a team Ability to prioritize tasks, allocate time, and maintain schedule flexibility Ability to teach students the use of computer applications and implement technology specific to student's needs Ability to develop, implement, and evaluate behavior plans in collaboration with IEP team Ability and desire to become an active member of a school staff through participation in committees and activities Experience working with non-speaking communicators and the use of visual communication systems/supports, such as core vocabulary and AAC devices
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
(May include but not be limited to): Provide direct remediation to eligible students in small groups or individually. Provide direct instruction in academic, social-emotional, communication, behavioral, and functional skill areas aligned with student IEP goals Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in compliance with state and federal regulations Differentiate instruction using evidence-based practices and accommodations to meet diverse learner needs Utilize positive behavior intervention strategies and classroom management techniques to support student success Collect and analyze student data to monitor progress and adjust instruction accordingly Collaborate with general education teachers, related service providers, paraprofessionals, and families to support student achievement Maintain accurate documentation, progress reports, and compliance records Facilitate IEP meetings and communicate effectively with families regarding student progress and needs Responsible for administration of MSTEP, MI-ACCESS and other required assessments. Supervise and support classroom paraprofessionals Participate in professional development, staff meetings, and district initiatives Foster a safe, nurturing, and inclusive classroom environment Attachment(s): Elementary K-2 Cross Categorical Teacher
