Gifted Resource Teacher - Elementary Kansas City Public Schools - 4.0 Kansas City, MO Job Details Full-time 15 hours ago Qualifications School experience Bachelor's degree Elementary school teaching Full Job Description The gifted resource teacher is a certified, professional educator who assures that school-based, Gifted Education services are delivered through a collaborative model that supports the continuum of services to exceptional education students. The model is designed to strengthen direct services for gifted learners and to enhance the quality of instruction offered to all students. The academic resource gifted teacher (GRT) will collaborate with classroom teachers to design differentiated lessons from the curriculum program of studies that will challenge students to learn at a faster rate, think on a higher level, and study sophisticated and complex content. The (GRT) will support the KCPS vision and mission by ensuring a highly rigorous, college and career preparatory curricular program designed to challenge students to think critically and to become global leaders. The (GRT) will also monitor and assure that students have the opportunity to participate in innovative programs designed specifically to meet the unique needs of gifted learners.
What You'll Be Doing:
(Responsibilities) Provide support to gifted learners and teachers at multiple sites based on building goals and initiatives through the co-teaching model of a particular skill or unit of study; offering flexible small group instruction as necessary; assisting with planning, modifying and differentiating instruction; and supporting gifted learners throughout the school day when appropriate. Implement researched-based, instructional strategies, specifically designed to meet the needs of gifted learners, using differentiated methods, during Tier 1 and 2 instruction. Offer ongoing support to and collaborate with classroom teachers and district staff to expand gifted opportunities for students to in general education settings. Integrate culturally relevant teaching practices and pedagogy. Suggest and model effective strategies and techniques and provide supplementary materials as needed. Communicate with parents and teachers to support and interpret data for better understanding as necessary. Maintain ongoing communication with parents. Communicate with building principals on an ongoing basis. Participate in professional development activities as they relate to best practice and gifted education. Regularly evaluate the effectiveness of the services, recommending necessary changes. Perform all other duties as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent of School Leadership. Attend and participate in district core data meetings, as necessary. Develop program objectives, enrichment units and process curricula gifted students. Provide students with opportunities for interaction with community, state, national, and international resources. Monitor students' progress, keep accurate records, and prepare reports on a regular basis. Develop schedule to ensure students receive designated number of minutes as required by the Department of Elementary Education. Elementary Gifted Resource Teachers:
Provide direct instruction to identified gifted students, ensuring services align with district and state guidelines for gifted education. Design and deliver differentiated learning experiences that extend beyond the regular classroom curriculum, offering students opportunities to engage at advanced levels aligned with their abilities and areas of interest. Create a learning environment that fosters creativity, critical thinking, and intellectual challenge for gifted learners. Support the district's gifted identification process, including administering districtwide and individual screenings.
