This educator integrates literacy, science, project-based learning, and place-based education to foster curiosity, critical thinking, creativity, and strong academic growth. Our school values both inquiry and direct instructional teaching approaches. Embedding social-emotional learning, nature-based learning, authentic project work, and meaningful connection to community and environment are pillars of our model. The ideal candidate is passionate about innovative education, interdisciplinary literacy, and creating engaging learning experiences that balance academic rigor with student agency and joy. Key Responsibilities Instruction & Curriculum Collaboratively design and implement rigorous, standards-aligned instruction with a strong emphasis on literacy, science, inquiry, and interdisciplinary learning. Develop and facilitate meaningful project-based learning experiences that: Integrate multiple subject areas Promote student voice, collaboration, and real-world application. Include research, fieldwork, community connections, and public presentations or exhibitions. Utilize current research and evidence-based practices such as the science of reading in literacy and learning science. Differentiate instruction to support diverse learners and individualized growth. Integrate nature-based and place-based learning into daily instruction. Assessment & Student Support Use formative and summative assessments to monitor progress and guide instruction. Maintain clear communication regarding student growth and learning goals. Collaborate with student support staff and colleagues to meet the needs of all learners. Collaboration & Family Partnership Work closely with teachers, school leadership, the Outdoor Educator, and support staff. Participate in curriculum planning, reflective practice, and professional development. Build strong partnerships with families through regular communication and conferences. Contribute positively to a collaborative and evolving school culture. Classroom Culture & Outdoor Learning Cultivate a safe, inclusive, joyful, and academically engaging classroom environment. Foster curiosity, creativity, collaboration, and respect for the natural world. Comfortably participate in outdoor learning, hikes, and nature-based activities throughout all seasons. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Education or related field required; Master's degree preferred. Montana teaching license (or eligibility) preferred. Experience with project-based, inquiry-based, experiential, or progressive education models. Strong background or interest in literacy instruction and interdisciplinary curriculum design. Knowledge of current research related to literacy, child development, and learning science. Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills. Comfort teaching outdoors in a variety of conditions.
