Job Description

Kindergarten Teacher Hillel Academy of Greater Dayton Dayton, OH Job Details Full-time | Contract $20,000 - $25,000 a year 23 hours ago Benefits Paid time off Qualifications Elementary Education Teaching Certification Master's degree Bachelor's degree Working with elementary school students Early Childhood Education Full Job Description Hillel Academy's Two-Year Kindergarten (TYK) program is designed for pre-kindergarten-age children who are intellectually ready for more—children who arrive curious, capable, and hungry for challenge before they are conventionally "kindergarten age." Rather than holding advanced learners back or rushing them into rigid grade-level expectations, the TYK program meets children exactly where they are. Spanning two school years, TYK provides an enriched, accelerated kindergarten experience that goes deep rather than simply moving fast. Students engage in rigorous, inquiry-based learning in literacy, mathematics, and Jewish studies, with ample room to think critically, ask big questions, and develop the intellectual habits that will carry them through elementary school and beyond. Graduates of the TYK program enter first grade not just ready—but excited. Position Overview The Two-Year Kindergarten Educator is an intellectually engaged, developmentally expert practitioner who understands that gifted young learners require something different: not more worksheets, but richer problems; not faster pacing, but deeper thinking. This educator designs and delivers an advanced, play-based, inquiry-rich curriculum that challenges and delights young minds while honoring the whole child—their social, emotional, creative, and spiritual development alongside their academic gifts. Because TYK spans two years, this educator has the rare opportunity to build deep, sustained relationships with students and families, watching children grow from eager pre-kindergarteners into confident, capable first-grade-ready scholars. Key Responsibilities Design and implement an enriched, two-year curriculum arc that meets advanced learners where they are and challenges them to go further—in literacy, mathematics, science, social studies, and Jewish studies (assistance and foundation provided for curriculum development) Use ongoing observation, assessment, and documentation to identify each child's readiness level and differentiate instruction accordingly, ensuring no child's potential goes unmet Employ inquiry-based, project-based, and problem-solving instructional approaches that develop critical thinking, creativity, and intellectual curiosity from an early age Foster a classroom culture in which students are encouraged to ask hard questions, take intellectual risks, and learn from challenge Build strong, communicative partnerships with families, helping them understand and celebrate the gifts their TYK-age child brings—and the ways the program is designed to cultivate those gifts Collaborate with the Head of School and faculty to align TYK learning progressions with first-grade expectations and beyond, ensuring a seamless upward transition Participate in child study and individualized planning conversations, particularly for students with asynchronous development (advanced academically, still developing socially or emotionally) Integrate Jewish values, Hebrew language, holidays, and traditions into daily classroom life in a meaningful and engaging way Maintain a classroom environment that meets all Ohio childcare health, safety, and licensing standards Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of School Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Elementary Education, or a closely related field from an accredited institution Demonstrated ability to challenge and engage young children who are academically ahead of their age-peers Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills Preferred Qualifications Master's degree in Early Childhood Education, Gifted Education, or a related field Ohio Pre-K-3 Teaching License or eligibility for licensure Experience with project-based learning (PBL) or inquiry-based curriculum design Experience in a Jewish educational setting or familiarity with Jewish holidays and traditions Training in structured literacy or early reading intervention (e.g., Orton-Gillingham, Wilson, Reading Recovery)
