Primary School Job Description:
The Kindergarten teacher is a full-time certified position reporting to the building principal. The Kindergarten Teacher is responsible for providing developmentally appropriate, engaging instruction aligned with Ohio's Learning Standards for Kindergarten. The teacher will create a positive and nurturing classroom environment that supports the academic, social, emotional, and behavioral growth of young learners. Candidates must hold a valid Ohio teaching license appropriate for Kindergarten instruction.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and implement lesson plans and instructional materials aligned with Ohio's Learning Standards for Kindergarten, creating engaging and meaningful learning experiences for students. Deliver standards-based instruction in literacy, mathematics, science, social studies, and social-emotional learning appropriate for early childhood learners. Create a classroom environment that is safe, welcoming, structured, and supportive of student growth and independence. Utilize developmentally appropriate instructional strategies, hands-on learning activities, centers, and play-based learning experiences to support student engagement. Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all learners, including students with IEPs and gifted learners. Use assessment data to monitor student progress, guide instruction, and communicate student growth. Foster positive relationships with students, families, staff, and the school community to support student success. Support the development of foundational literacy, numeracy, communication, problem-solving, and social skills. Employ a variety of instructional strategies, classroom technology, and educational resources to support diverse learning styles and abilities. Maintain accurate, complete, and compliant records in accordance with state law, district policy, and administrative regulations. Communicate effectively with parents and guardians regarding student progress, classroom activities, and student needs. Collaborate with colleagues through grade-level meetings, professional learning communities (PLCs), and school initiatives. Participate in and demonstrate commitment to ongoing professional growth and development through district and self-selected opportunities. Support school operations by fulfilling assigned duties, responsibilities, and extracurricular involvement as needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, or related field Valid Ohio teaching license: Early Childhood Education (PreK3) Primary Education (PreK5) or equivalent licensure appropriate for Kindergarten instruction Completion of an approved teacher preparation program and student teaching experience. Passing scores on applicable Ohio Assessments for Educators (OAE) examinations. Strong understanding of child development, foundational literacy instruction, and positive classroom management practices. Experience working with young children in an elementary school setting is preferred. Why Independence?
