The First Grade Teacher is responsible for creating a safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate learning environment that supports the academic, social, and emotional growth of young learners. This role involves planning and delivering instruction in core subject areas, including literacy, mathematics, science, and social studies, while fostering curiosity, independence, and a love of learning. The teacher uses a variety of instructional strategies to meet diverse student needs, monitors student progress through ongoing assessment, and communicates regularly with families. The First Grade Teacher collaborates with colleagues, supports positive behavior development, and contributes to a nurturing classroom community where all students feel valued and supported.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging lessons in reading, writing, mathematics, science, social studies, and other subjects. Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of students, including English language learners and students with special needs. Implement classroom management strategies that promote a safe and respectful learning environment. Monitor, assess, and record student progress, providing timely feedback to students and families. Collaborate with colleagues to design and improve curriculum, instructional strategies, and school-wide initiatives. Communicate effectively with families regarding student progress, classroom activities, and school events. Participate in professional development opportunities and maintain current knowledge of best practices in education. OTHER NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Supervise students during lunch, recess, and school events as needed. Assist with school-wide initiatives, extracurricular programs, and community events. Support school policies and procedures and contribute to a positive school culture. MINIMUM EDUCATION LEVEL REQUIRED
Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education or related field. Master's degree preferred but not required. MINIMUM RELATED EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Prior teaching experience in elementary education preferred. Experience working with third-grade students or within similar age groups is highly desirable. REQUIRED LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS
Valid state teaching certification for elementary education (K-6 or 1-6 depending on state requirements). Additional endorsements or certifications (e.g., Reading Specialist, Special Education) preferred but not required. Carlow University is Devoted to....
