To provide high-quality instruction to kindergarten students in both English and Spanish through the Sheldon ISD Dual Language Program. The teacher will promote bilingualism, biliteracy, and cross-cultural understanding while supporting academic excellence in both languages. This role focuses on developing literacy, numeracy, and foundational skills using a research-based dual language model.Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited university (required) Valid Texas teaching certificate for EC-6 or appropriate elementary level certification Bilingual Education Certification - EC-6 (required) ESL Certification (preferred or must be obtained within one year)Special Knowledge/Skills:
Strong proficiency in academic Spanish and English (oral and written) Knowledge of dual language models (e.g., 50/50 or 90/10 framework) and biliteracy development Experience with early childhood literacy and numeracy development Ability to differentiate instruction and implement accommodations for English Learners (ELs) and special populations Strong classroom management, communication, and organizational skillsMajor Responsibilities and Duties:
Instructional Support:
Plan and deliver instruction in English and Spanish aligned to the district curriculum and TEKS Integrate content and language objectives in all lessons Use sheltered instruction strategies to support English language development Foster early literacy and numeracy skills through age-appropriate, engaging activitiesProgram Implementation:
Collaborate with bilingual/ESL staff to implement the Sheldon ISD Dual Language framework Support students' bilingual, biliterate, and bicultural development Provide a language-rich environment with visual supports, literacy centers, and culturally relevant materialsStudent Growth & Data:
Assess student progress using formal and informal assessments in both languages Use data to inform instruction and provide targeted support for students at risk Maintain accurate documentation of student growth and language proficiencyFamily & Community Engagement:
Communicate effectively with families in both English and Spanish Promote parent involvement in early education and bilingual learning Participate in campus and district events that celebrate bilingualism and cultural diversityWorking Conditions:
Classroom setting with active engagement from young learners Frequent standing, movement, and interaction with students May require attending after-school family events or bilingual program meetings Salary is commensurate with experience This position cannot be performed remotely Sheldon ISD will accept applications for this position through 04/07/2026.
