TeacherPrimary Purpose:
Provide specialized services to gifted students. Provide identified gifted students with a curriculum that provides an array of challenging learning experiences based on a continuum of learning that includes creative and critical thinking, research skills, and self-directed learning (19 TAC §89.3). Student learning experiences include project-based learning opportunities, the development of advanced level products using the engineering design process, and focused independent study units.Qualification Guidelines:
Education/Certifications:
Bachelor's degree from accredited university Valid Texas Teaching certificate with required endorsements for subject and level assignedExperience:
Two years' experience teaching gifted students within the general education classroom Completion of GT qualification requirements (30 hour foundational and annual updates required) Proven ability to work with students, parents, peers, and superiorsSpecial Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Knowledge of the characteristics and needs of gifted students Ability to capitalize on students' interests so as to encourage students to become independent learners while also making learning meaningful and relevant Ability to differentiate instruction and learning opportunities for gifted children General knowledge of the VISD Gifted and Talented identification and assessment processes An understanding of and sensitivity for the various cultural needs of the students of the district Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skillsSupervisory Responsibilities:
