Job Description

School Overview Seven Rivers Country Day School is a K-7 independent school operated by the Miller School of Albemarle in Crozet, Virginia. Rooted in the belief that childhood is a time for exploration, curiosity, and joyful learning, Seven Rivers integrates academic rigor with hands-on experiences in nature, play, and farm-based education. Our mission centers on building, learning, and playing. Students spend significant time outdoors each day, engage deeply with the natural world, and develop strong foundations in literacy, numeracy, creativity, and community. Seven Rivers operates as a division of the Miller School of Albemarle and is guided by the shared philosophy of educating the hands, hearts, and minds of students. Position Summary The Lower Elementary Teacher is responsible for creating a nurturing, joyful, and developmentally appropriate classroom environment that supports early learners in building foundational academic and social-emotional skills. The teacher designs and implements an integrated curriculum that emphasizes early literacy, numeracy, inquiry-based learning, outdoor exploration, and play. This role requires a strong commitment to experiential education, relationship-centered teaching, and honoring the developmental needs of young children in a technologically light environment. Key Responsibilities Classroom Teaching Design and deliver an engaging multi-age curriculum that supports foundational literacy, mathematics, and inquiry learning. Implement developmentally appropriate instruction that balances direct teaching, project-based learning, and play-based exploration. Foster a classroom culture built on curiosity, kindness, independence, and collaboration. Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners. Experiential and Outdoor Learning Integrate outdoor learning experiences into the daily curriculum. Utilize the school's farm, trails, woods, and natural spaces as learning environments. Social-Emotional Development Support students' growth in self-regulation, empathy, and resilience. Teach conflict resolution, cooperation, and emotional awareness. Create a classroom culture where students feel known, valued, and safe. Collaboration Work closely with colleagues across grade levels to support a cohesive school culture. Partner with specialists and support staff to meet individual student needs. Participate actively in faculty meetings, professional development, and school events.
