About Mountaintop Montessori Mountaintop Montessori is an independent school serving children from 18 months through eighth grade, located on a scenic 9-acre campus in Charlottesville, Virginia. The Opportunity Mountaintop Montessori is seeking a Lower Elementary Lead Guide to join the school for the 2026-27 academic year. This is a well-supported classroom within an established elementary program. The Lead Guide will work alongside an assistant and collaborate closely with colleagues, families, and school leadership to ensure a consistent and engaging Montessori experience for students. Key ResponsibilitiesClassroom Leadership Prepare and maintain an authentic Montessori Lower Elementary environment Deliver clear, engaging presentations aligned with Montessori pedagogy Guide students toward independence, self-direction, and normalization Differentiate instruction to meet a range of developmental needs Observation & Assessment Observe students closely to inform instructional decisions Track student progress using Transparent Classroom Support students with diverse learning profiles through thoughtful intervention Community & Communication Build strong, respectful relationships with students and families Communicate regularly with parents regarding progress and development Collaborate with colleagues across the elementary program Participate in school events, parent education, and community activities Professional Contribution Engage in ongoing professional development Participate in evaluation, goal setting, and team meetings Mentor and collaborate with the classroom assistant Uphold the mission and values of Mountaintop Montessori Qualifications Montessori Elementary certification (AMI, AMS, MACTE or equivalent) Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field Prior Lower Elementary classroom experience preferred Candidate Profile The ideal candidate: Demonstrates strong Montessori alignment and classroom presence Is organized, observant, and confident in guiding a full elementary cycle Communicates clearly and professionally with both children and adults Is collaborative, reflective, and committed to continuous growth Compensation & Benefits Salary starting at $48,500, based on education and experience 10-month academic year contract Optional summer work available with additional compensation Health, dental, vision, and life insurance 403(b) with employer matching Paid time off Professional development support
