The ESY Teacher provides specialized instruction and support to students with disabilities participating in the Extended School Year (ESY) program (in person). The teacher implements IEP goals, collects progress data, collaborates with related service providers and support staff, and ensures students continue to receive educational benefit during the summer program in accordance with their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).REQUISITE EDUCATION AND SKILLS
: Must hold a Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university. Hold a valid Virginia teaching license in Special Education Experience in computer technology or willing to pursue appropriate technology training as required by position. Must demonstrate effective knowledge of and be sensitive to the needs of a diverse student population. Ability to develop effective relationships with students, parents and school personnel.ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
(including but not limited to the following) Provide direct instruction aligned to students' IEP goals and objectives. Implement accommodations, modifications, behavior supports, and specially designed instruction as outlined in student IEPs. Maintain a structured, safe, and supportive learning environment. Collaborate with instructional assistants, related service providers, and ESY staff to support student participation and progress. Collect and document student progress data throughout the ESY session. Support student communication needs, including implementation of AAC devices and other assistive technology as applicable. Implement behavior intervention plans (BIPs), reinforcement systems, and crisis response procedures as needed. Supervise and direct paraprofessionals and support staff assigned to the classroom. Communicate appropriately with families and school staff regarding student progress and needs. Ensure confidentiality of student information and compliance with IDEA, FERPA, and division procedures. Perform other duties as assigned by the ESY administrator or Director of Special Education.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This position operates in a professional school environment that includes classrooms, gymnasiums, cafeterias, auditoriums, and outdoor learning or recreational areas. The work environment involves noise levels that may range from low to moderate and requires frequent walking, standing, and movement throughout the school day. Occasional climbing, kneeling, or crouching may also be required. Periods of sitting are common while preparing lessons, grading assignments, or completing administrative tasks. The position may require lifting or moving instructional materials, classroom supplies, or equipment weighing up to 10 pounds on a regular basis and occasionally up to 25 pounds or more. Regular use of computers, interactive whiteboards, projectors, printers, and other instructional technologies is required to support teaching and learning. Clear verbal communication, active listening, and visual attentiveness are essential for delivering instruction and ensuring student safety. The role involves daily interaction with students and regular collaboration with colleagues, administrators, and families. Occasional travel between school sites or participation in supervised field trips may also be required. Teachers must be able to manage multiple responsibilities and adapt to the demands of a dynamic, fast-paced educational environment.CLEARANCES
